Is the time right for horsemeat to make a proper appearance?

Yes but I would rather see other meats easily available first, like goat.

Agreed. Goat and Horse would be great to see available. More mutton too, really and what about more rabbit and squirrel? All in abundant supplies.

When that happens though the price will shoot up, just like it did with cheaper cuts of meat that became trendy to use (e.g. pork belly!)

Spurred by the recent furore, I took a mad dive and ordered from Kezie:

1kg Horse Roast
Llama Steaks
Kangaroo Steaks
Ostrich Steaks
Sprinbok Steaks
Camel Steaks

Also another one that I can't remember right now. All were very nice, but the Kangaroo and Horse were especially lovely. Will definitely be ordering them again.

I'd definately try a horse steak or something, but it does need properly branding. Simply calling it 'Horse' won't work...

The reason why it wouldn't do well is the same reason why cat and dog meat wouldn't.

British people associate all 3 animals with being pets, and not bred specifically for food like the other meats.

I'm not much of a meat eater, but I'd certainly like to be murdering those horses or whatever so that some sweet person could have a burger made of them.

My other half ate some burgers that could have been horse meat yesterday, and immediately didn't feel well, but fortunately now she's in a stable condition.

I tried to take them back today, but unfortunately it looks like we're saddled with them.

It’s an unbridled disaster.

I've said it once and I'll say it again

Years people have called me a snob for buying decent meat from decent butchers, how's your 2 4 1 lasagne now how's your buy 1 get 1 free burger how's your steak and a pint for £5 now

The only thing different you've done is not buy processed meat, hence why you haven't been affected. Don't kid yourself that you haven't been affected by the horse meat scandal because your buying your meat from a "decent" butcher.

Also, the last time I read your post, it was your "friends and family" who were the ones calling you a snob, so maybe voice your superiority with them as opposed to on a forum.

Honestly, the style of your post was just asking for a bite. I have nothing against "decent butchers", but buying fresh meat from a supermarket would not make you any less likely to come across horse meat. It's strictly processed meat that's affected to my knowledge.

We're still not eating venison as much as we should to keep the population in control. I would very much like to see the range of meats available to be more diverse as a whole.

Was working in belgium this week and because of this news decided to try horse steak.

Was nice bit sweeter than beef and darker colour. Would buy at cook at home if there was the easy choice.

I agree on this, the more mainstream it becomes the more affordable it can become.
I really like venison but the sciottish stuff I used to get in morrisons, which was quite affordable has dissappeared.
Was looking on a site earlier after being linked to some horse steaks, I'm actually very tempted to order some assorted meats for my next BBQ.
Some of the Diced steak prices weren't too bad.

Kangaroo
Springbok
Boar
Crocodile

Just some of the ones I would like to have again or try.
Here is where I was looking: http://www.keziefoods.co.uk/
