Is the Titan 8700i Pulse a good computer for gaming?

Hi,

I've got a budget of £550 (doesn't have to include monitor, keyboard, mouse etc), and would ideally like to buy a computer that can run Hearts of Iron 3 comfortably. Now, this game is a few years old, and the minimum requirements can be hit by almost any machine. The reality is, however, that the late-game will experience massive slowdown if you have a low-end computer- which renders it unplayable IMO.

I'm looking at the Titan 8700i Pulse ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-247-OE&groupid=43&catid=2385&subcat= ). The processor is fast, there's plenty of RAM, and it's within budget. Slight concerns over the graphics card but Hearts of Iron 3 isn't a graphic-intensive game.

So am I right in thinking this machine meets my needs? I don't know how to build my own computer so was looking for a pre-made (and pre-overclocked) one.

buy it and at a later date you can always throw in a different card, to me thats a waste of money but if you can't make it any more it will play at least the game you want and others on a lower setting

Having just bought one I'd say it's an ideal gaming machine. Personally I spec'd mine out with a 180GB SSD and a 7950 card but if you can afford the jump to the 7770 it'd be worth it.

Have you got an OS? If not that's another £50 on top of the £544 listed price.

Yeah, I've got an OS.

I might be able to stretch to £600 and get the 7770. Is the difference that noticable between the 7770 and the 5450?

Hugely. A 5450 is not a gaming card, it is designed for films only. Even a 7770 is fairly low end for gaming.

I have had this problem too and I've decided to wait that little bit longer and buy parts that are better quality and will last me longer in the future.

Why rush and buy it right now when if you wait a bit, get a little more cash and make your machine worth the money you are spending!

It's not really a question of needing to save more money- it's more a case of £600 is really all I am willing to spend on a PC. Especially as I will only play this one game on it- I really only want this game to run well, I'm not bothered about being able to play Crysis/Skyrim etc on it, I have the Xbox for that.

Yes most new games, at a decent resolution (1080p) are mainly GPU loaded and that CPU will not be pushed to the max - on a lower res display possibly :)

for gaming i5 is much better... + that system has only 1gb 7850 and no option to go 2gb... what are you supposed to do with 1 gb VRAM?? play tetris? :D:D

True i5 is superior as it is faster clock for clock. However it would cost more so it's all swing and roundabouts really.

1GB Vram is fine btw!
