According to the letter, the Merseyside chief constable said: "A key factor in causing the disaster was the fact that large numbers of Liverpool fans had turned up without tickets.

"This was getting lost sight of in attempts to blame the police, the football authorities, etc."

How long before the Liverpool born people boycott the BBC for reporting the truth?

Its just a shame that the families have been misled over this. If a family member of mine had died in such circumstances id rather the truth, than something being shoved down my throat in order to protect the gulity.

The incident has always been in my opinion a combination of many things, not just one. As I said in another thread, policing, stadium management, ticketing, peoples attitudes, society etc, have all changed for the better since the 80's which at the time, was appalling.

Yes. This 'leak' is one mans opinion, an opinion that's been proven to be factually wrong.

I'm sure it's purely coincidental that this was the only piece of info from the thousands of pages of documents to be leaked.

I worked that out but wondering what his agenda was and a couple of replies are odd

Everyone is entitled to opinion but I am interested in the motives here

To annoy you and other Liverpool fans, of course.

You only need to look at his posts in the football thread last night (you can see the pre-edited versions).

Agree, that's what I thought the intent was too, jsut wondered what others thought

tbh it doesn't annoy me, if it's his opinion the that's up to him, if it's ti provoke people then that refelcts as much on him as anything

Is this thread for real or just a sick wind up?

(Apologies, didn't notice the op was suspended and so I'll leave it there)

I don't think this is a subject you can ever have a proper debate on because of the Sun newspaper. I don't fully blame the fans like they did, or the police like the enquiry did. I think the truth is somewhere in between.

I'd fully blame the police if football clubs paid the full cost of policing this sport.

I fell so sorry for the innocent fans either way, I was at the 89 final and it was a fine tribute to the 96. :(

I wasn't at hillsborough due to being involved in a very serious road accident 2 weeks before, I was not directly involved but my the gf's brother who was with me on night of accident was still in intensive care, I went to the replay which was a very odd experience but couldn't get a final ticket

my brother and several mates were there but as Forest fans so not in Leppings lane end
