Is the XDA Orbit II the one for me?

Hardly any work at all.

TBH, it's generall a 50/50 split between the 'free' applications on XDA and the commercial products like SPB Mobile Shell ( http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/about/pressreleases/2008/mar04.html?en ) or WisBar Advance Desktop ( http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/products/pocketpc/WisBarAdvanceDesktop/ )

For the most though, they use the HTC Today (which comes with your phone) and Ultimate Launch which is free and unrestricted to use but has a "Unlicensed Version" in each corner if you don't register (only a couple of quid anyway).

But you can get things like PoorlyDucks Vista Theme ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350011 ) - has raving reviews, but you need a bit of patience to install it all and a bit of experience.

Spencepu3'3 Aurora theme ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371049 ) - which I use but changed it slightly for my own needs. An absolute doddle to use, and all with free software (if you ignore the Ultimate Launcher thing)

Or there's LOADS of iPhone stuff which is pretty well done (personally I don't like the iPhone layout).

And LOADS more.

Thanks very much again mate!

Should keep me going for a while, i'll give it a few days to get my head around the phone etc.. going to be a choice to decide between keeping copilot or opting to throw TomTom on there! :)

From what i've just seen from those links, Aurora looks very nice, but i love the dialer app on the first one, thats something that stodd out from the get go on the "home screen pics" thread.

I'll see how the default one is! hehe :D

Has it come yet? :p

Best of luck at the interview, can't wait to hear what you think to the phone!!

...going to be a choice to decide between keeping copilot or opting to throw TomTom on there! :)

I sold copilot on ebay and got about £55 for it. :)

You should get it today evening, I ordered mine at around 2-3pm and it came the next day at 6pm.

Nice one!!!!

Don't forget to admire it's shiny screen 'cos it'll be full of finger prints within an hour!! :p

All seems to be going well so far, just having a big look around and learning, although every time I go to options and change input to touch screen keypad etc.. it reverts to the normal keyboard :(

Is there any way to easily rectify this? :D

Just trying to find an easy to install theme now! hehe

God i'm confused :D

From what i'd read, Touch Commander and Ultimate Launch would work well together, so I threw on Touch Commander, and it won't let me enter programs or settings from the start menu now!

Just to see, I then installed Ultimate Launch, which has put some nifty stuff along the bottom of the Today screen, which is below the listed commands such as lock, no new messages etc.. on the original Today screen that I can't seem to delete as I can't get into settings/programs!

/confused

LOL.

Don't both with TC mate. It's for phones that don't have the TouchFlo.

Another tip, which you'll probably find now, is you can install as many stuff as you like and if your phone ends up in a state which is basically rubbish or two much, then a hard reset (keep the reset button pressed and hold down the two soft keys [windows and ok] and it will reset into factory state. Takes 5 mins to then restore it to how it was as factory shipped.

You're doing the right thing though Tim. You won't break the phone, and you're getting around it the hard way so to speak so you're learning as you go on.

There is a bit of a learning curve and there is so much out there you'll never be up to date.

Ultimate Launch is the first app I'd install on any PocketPC, not because it looks pretty but also because I can organise things that I use often in groups and hardly ever use the start button.

Another 'nice' app to look into is S2U2 which is a better method of locking your phone and is an absolute doddle to install.

Ahh ok, thanks, TC seems a bit hard to get rid of without errors, and i've not done much, yet, so I might do a factory restore to get rid of it properly and go from there, probably the best bet for now :D

One other essential bit of software Tim to use, if you're gonna be 'playing' about with settings is PIM Backup.

It's the easiest and the best backup tool I've used, don't bother with any of the paid stuff, this is a simply case of load -> select backup -> confirm filename -> go.

Dated-filenames, VERY small, and is generally the defacto standard on the XDA forums.

I've now got ultimate launch and S2U2 on there, S2Us seems nice, but if i hit the lock button on the today screen it just goes to the normal locked screen, S2U2 only seems to come into play when I have waited for the backlight to go off?

I used the .ini update from Aurora with UL but seems to make it a bit harder to use right now, i'll have to have a look and see what I can do! As i'd love to get this clock/appearance!

Try restarting the phone to allow S2U2 to 'kick in'.

That screenshot you've posted is Spence's new Aurora theme, I think he's gonna be releasing it within the next few days.

As for the current Aurora, did you use Spencer's download or the CAB sections? There's a post about 2/3rd of the thread that has 10 CAB files, all numbered in an order of how to install them and that works far better. Still need a bit of twiddling about but a lot better than Spence's install method.

So is the Tytn 2 good as a normal phone? I was looking at the n95 8GB but I keep getting drawn to this phone.

I'm not THAT bothered about the camera...although the camera on the 8gb is a major plus.

In all honesty, i've been having a lot of headaches with this phone since Friday now :(

As a PDA, Mobile Internet etc.. its obviously a great beast, and the GPS is the bonus that swayed me over here, but i'm 100% not enjoying the "stylus texting" and what feels like a long drawn out way to make a call, after the refined and super amazing K800i makes this feels 10x worse :(

I know i'm looking into the avenues where it "does it! rather than "excels at it" but right now i'm realising the thingsthat i'm finding hard, are 95% of my phone usage :( Not to mention now missing the K800i's very good camera!

As much as I wanted this phone, and love the look of it, I just feel it might end up going back to O2 or ebayed and another phone bought, along with a satnav :(

Its an amazing device, although maybe i'm in the wrong usage market to go for it right now! I had a Samsung E-900 the other year and the touch screen drove me insane and ended up going back! And that was just 4 buttons! :(

Why are you stylus texting?

When you go to a text message, you'll see the little SIP icon in the bottom centre, press the arrow next to it and you'll be able to change the various keyboard options one of which is the Touch Keyboard and Keypad.

If you use that (and you can change it to be the default one), you honestly don't need the stylus. And if you don't like that, you can always try PocketCM ( http://www.pocketcm.com/keyboard2.php )

Did warn you about the camera :p

I did actually try changing the input method more times than I can humanly remember, but it just keeps resetting to using the damnable full keyboard :( The camera I can live with, its just the texting, the fact that I tried to call O2 and it blanked the screen once the call conected so I had no numbers to press for options (:() and the fact that everything seems to take 2-3 times longer than the k800i :(

I'm really trying to like it and adapt, its just....****** hard

For the keyboard, go to settings, then Input, and change the input method to the one you want to use.

As for the phone turning off while on a call, well yes it does do this because the screen is touch sensitive and it'd be a bugger if you ended the call while you chin was moving! :p

BUT, you can 'force' the screen to be on all the time with this hack: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360657

Shame you're not enjoying it as much matey.
