Hi,
I was wondering if there is a big difference... if i decide to buy 2 x gtx 295's in performance... or shall i not just waste the money and stick with 1.

Thanks ;)

Ermm... well im looking to buy a new gaming pc (my first build) so i was just wondering if it would increase the overall performance... at certain resolutions (as you said)...
maybe 1920 x 1200?(the res i would use) i would probably play it at a high res..

Hope i haven't confused you ;)

at that res, i would not get 2, not at the same time.

you are best off getting one card, but the PSU and MB to support 2 then adding a second one in at a later date if you really need one

I had 2 GTX 295s in Quad-SLI until very recently. I also play at that res (well, 1920x1080) and can't say that I have noticed very much of a difference in gaming performance now that I have only got 1. The only real difference would be for benchmarking.

So, no, I don't think you should bother with a 2nd. Put the money towards an SSD boot drive, watercooling set-up and some new peripherals?

A single 295 can probably push a game to near its limits I would guess, wouldnt really be able to tell it it was worth the upgrade in my opinion.

Yeah stick with the single 295 at that res, unless your running 2560x1600 theres no point, and even then it might not help much to have 2.

In Crysis and Far Cry 2 and some other games you wil see gains, but it is really only Crysis that needs more than one to play at extreme settings and remain playable.

only game you will see it is crysis with a constant 60fps....you need 3x280gtx for constant 60fps...i have 2xgtx280 and i get 30-40fps on ultra high 1920 res...farcry 2 however i get constant 60fps all day long at 1920

At what res, detail settings though. :p

I wouldn't buy a 295 now tbh, as you can get 2x 275's for less than one of those, and they are faster, and they are getting canned in May for a single card version (exactly like the 4870x2), which will be cheaper. :)

I doubt hes wanting to play Crysis at 640x480, everything low or off. :p

Nothing will get a constant 60 in Crysis, unless your going to play it at a very low res, and next to no details, its terrible.

Everyone should just move on and forget about it.

No point in 2x 295's, and no point in 1x tbh, as you can get 2x 275's which are cheaper and faster, or a 4870 x2 which is around same performance as it for about £100 less, the 295's are pointless cards now at those prices, and they are getting canned in May anyway for a single card version (exactly like the 4870 x2), which will be cheaper. :)

Forgetting about Crysis as a game probably won't be a problem. However, like the legendary Quake 3 engine of yester-year, games may well be using it five/six years after the original came out. As such, Crysis performance may well be relevant for a long time to come.

The only time I've seen Crysis played at a minimum frame rate of 30.4 using ultra high and 1920x1200 was on a triple GTX280 SLI system with a Wolfdale running at 4.5-odd GHz.

If your bank balance is up to the task, then enjoy the best-looking game engine ever compiled.

I suppose it depends if he has got the spare x16 PCIe slot for a 275 SLI set-up.

295's requires slightly less power as well which might also be a consideration.

Either way they will both be excellent set-ups for gaming.

Unless you have a very fast CPU the 2nd card is going to be mostly wasted... unless you play above 2048x res its completely pointless.

benchmarks have shown so far that the fourth GPU is basically wasted. You can get a small to moderate boost with a third GPU, but a fourth one just isn't utilised properly

i was getting 2x 295 cards ill be gaming @ 5040by1050.
but from reading this thread ill just get 3x 285 cards and watercool them.
just waiting for my cheque to clear ;)

When playing at stupidly high resolutions the lack of graphics memory on the 295's will be the main limitation. Even at 1920x1200 a GTX295 will choke on some games set to max visuals. 1GB per GPU is not enough:).

Mine has never "choked".

I play at 2048x res with 260GTX SLI (only 896Mb) and even with lots of AA and ultra settings so far nothing makes it choke.
