Is there a codec for WMP for MKV files?

I used to use shark007's pack, but recently he's started force installing the ask toolbar in the installation, you're not given an option for it. The only way to stop it is to download a registry file from his site and adding it to the registry which apparently stops it.
I've simlply stopped using it.
I use shark007 codecs and I've not had the ask toolbar installed, either it's not there or there's an opt out.

As Khaan said, MKV only needs a splitter (haali in my case) as it's a container not a codec, Windows supports a fair few codecs out of the box now though.

I've just checked and it looks like he made it optional again. There was a period of a month or two in march and April where the toolbar and search redirect were installed with no option, as users were agreeing to it when they accepted the EULA.

I try to avoid codec packs as they tend to install rubbish which usually just ends up causing problems and I also avoid vlc as while it just works it does provide inferior video quality. I'd reccoment using either CCCP or just using plain old mpc-hc and ffdshow which CCCP pretty much is. There is a nice guide here: http://www.homecinema-hd.com/intro_en.html

I like the combination of the DivX codec pack and AC3Filter. This allows me to play everything I need in WMP12 and WMC on the XBOX 360.
