Is there a compatability issue?

Hi. A friend of mine has just bought a PC using a E6600 C2 and got 2 Gig of PC2-5300 RAM. He has been told that was a waste of money as the RAM could actually run slower than PC2-4200. Is that true?

Afaik at stock the e6600 using an x8 multi uses a 300fsb which means ram is 600mhz (1:1) which is faster than pc4200. So no, its not a waste of money in that sense.

I assume hes going to overclock too, which gives him more headroom again.

I doubt he will actually as he's not very confident messing with settings.
