hello guys....

lately i hear weird things...from my neighbour...who just bought a new pc, hes having problems most of the time and yesterday i heard another weirdo story from him...

he told me his hard drive is very fast  (just a normal maxtor 250gb)

and he was having problems with the drive because the SATA cable used wasnt the correct one...and his super fast drive wasnt working properly.

I didnt keep up with all the new pc hardware in the last 2 years...but that sounds weird to me.

is there a sata 2 cable?

2 years ago sata drives(i am using one too) came with the normal sata cable.

how about sata 2 drives? do they need a new cable? like the old udma 33 and udma 66 ribbon cables? or is he talking out of his back?

he also told me they come with a metal thingy on their sides...which i believe is a locking clip or something?

the sata cables are L shaped on their sides(the connector) in order to be installed properly....the only difference with the new cables for (ultra speed disks  ) is just the locking clip?

The guy is being a pain in the .... nearly every day telling me about his ultra fast pc (just a core duo 1.86ghz NOT 1066fsb) etc etc and i am just fed up with all his stories...time to get mean :p

There are no specific SATA2 cables.

There have been various attempts to improve the original design though - spring clips or WD's daft Secure Connect cables. None of these however have different electrical properties from the original SATA spec.
