Is there a funny, story driven game with character progression as well ?

there is some, maybe more of a reversal than a progression but

you start off with wheatley helping you vs glados who wants you dead, and end up in a truce with potato glados, fighting deranged uber-wheatley, and by the end glados 'used to want you dead but now [she] just wants you gone'

He doesn't mean chatacter development, he means progression like leveling up/getting new skills/etc

oh, yes I missed the 'level progression'.

System Shock 2 would fit the bill apart from 'funny'. It does have some (mostly dark) humour in places, but it has the best story of any game ever (there's a god-damn plot twist that is as good as any film's) and is RPG FPS. Bioshock is basically a remake of it.

Thanks for all the replies ! Be going through and checking the suggested games over the weekend and see if anyone takes my fancy. Was way more then I though so hopefully there be one or two that I find worth a punt on.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Not entirely funny, but has moments of comedy, along with quite a lot of creepy.
Currently on offer from GOG for £3.59

Oh yeah, also, if you can find them. No One Lives Forever, and No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way. Superbly camp 60's fun.

Shadow Warrior 1 & 2. Both are laugh out loud funny with character progression. The first one is the funniest but the character progression and variety/choice of weapons and upgrades in 2 is seriously impressive. These are the only games that truly match your description imo @TheSwede .

Costume quest
LISA (amazing writing)
Bookmarked Costume quest, thanks. :)
South park

south park is the only funny semi-character progression game i've encountered.

i find in general humour in video games really sparse and hard to appreciate. nearly always feels forced apart from south park + portal.

Thought I would see South Park be mentioned here, been on the fence about this game for some time so added it to wishlist for now. :p

Might have to look on youtube about this one, see if it tickle my gaming nerve. :)

Borderlands 2? Less story more shooting though.

Borderland the pre sequel. Specifically the second play through when Tiny Tina narrates your actions!

Yeah, Borderlands can be funny on occasions, and I seen streams in the past with Tiny Tina around that been hilarious ! Already have the games though, just got to get around to play BL2 and the pre-sequels. :p

The last game that made me laugh out loud was Wolfenstein the New Collosus. But I think I'm a little twisted. South Park is a good suggestion. The Monkey island series of games are funny, although pretty old now.

New Collosus is on my wishlist, I watched some when Cohh played it when it was released and I agree with you, it has quiet a few bits of humor in it ! :p So I guess I'm bit twisted as well !

GTA 5. Trevor is comic genius. :D

Isn't GTA more mulitplayer then single player game ?

Psychonauts

And hopefully Psychonauts 2
Not sure about this game, will watch some youtube about this one too. :)
Divinity Original Sin 2,
Borderlands 2,
At a push with the few comedic moments and one liners you could add The Witcher 3,
Final Fantasy 15 also has plenty of humour.
Yeah, playing Witcher 3 at the moment, for the second time and yes, there is some good laughs on occasion there ! Final Fantasy though, don't you have to had played the other games before or all independent of each other ?

Bit old, but Bulletstorm is very tongue in cheek and has a bit of character progression.

Or maybe Far Cry Blood Dragon, a bit lacking in terms of story, but dripping with 80s cheese.
Bulletstrom old ?? Unless you talking about another game that steam didn't have, I found this one from 2017. Clicky Got Far Cry 3, thought Blood Dragon was a DLC but just realized it is free standing so that one on wish list now too, thanks ! (Well it would if uPlay had a wish list, so guess it be on steam for the time being then. :p )

Graveyard Keeper just started playing it myself looks interesting.
I agree, looks like an interesting game but not seen that much of humor in it though. But yeah, might buy it one day in the future.

Not played the first one yet, but saw there might be a remade one of the first one so might wait and play both. Added to wishlist as well. :)

I did find them, but.. well, here is an article from Rock, Paper, Shotgun which you might already have read though, and seems to be a bit of a grey area in regards to getting the game ?

Have Shadow Warrior 2 already on my wishlist, seems I have to check out the first one too. Was not aware they had fun moments in them, just liked the little of the game play I saw on the second one. Thanks, definitely be looking closer on them now. :)

Yeah, it's a complete screw up. I've still got the original discs from many years ago, but they're cracking games and they're extremely requested for GOG to get, but the rights and ownership is a complete mess.
