are the I7's just like the other quad and dual core cpu's, do they need lapping...?

Depends if you have uneven temps or there really high. I would want them to be pretty bad before i voided the warranty like that.

good point, 3 cpu's are level the 4th is lower
on a cool day like today my i7 is running 38,38,38,34 and thats on water
All i7's are like you have. They all have 1, but usually 2 cores that are hotter than the others. Lapping the IHS will make no difference to that. The only thing that would make a difference, is to remove the IHS. Which really isn't worth the bother.

These I7's kick out some heat lol
