You could still throw a new GPU in it without suffering.
Yeah currently only 1155 socket motherboards support pci-e 3 (only some of them)
Hi Bilbo yeah your right about the future proof, thought I would try and get another year or so out off it, If possible, nice idea if I couldbased on what I required for New GPU and extras possibly, throwing in.
Kenneth
Fair enough, I just wondered if you already had a 1366. It's not really a "future proof" socket![]()
Sell the i7 920 & board, get yourself a 2500K & Z68 board, like the Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3, which has two PCI-E 3.0 slots.
Then when Ivy bridge arrives sell the 2500K & upgrade to Ivy bridge.
Socket 1155 has more upgrade potential than Socket 1366, plus it runs cooler, lower voltages = less heat.
I sold my i7 920 & board at the beginning of the year & went with a 2500K because of the advantages with 1155.
