Is there a way of checking an external USB drive's health?

I have a USB maxtor one touch thats few years old now and I would like to check it for fitness etc. Any tips or ideas...

Speed Fan doesn't pick it up and I can't find a Maxtor utility, it must be possible.

You'll be able to run Scandisk as normal but it's far from the greatest tool. You might be able to use Maxtor's diags but you'll probably have to make sure that Legacy USB support is enabled in the BIOS to allow the drive to be accessible - no guarantees though.
