Is there a way to fix partition tables without reformatting?

Hi

My PC currently boots fine. I have an 80GB SATA2 disk cut in half with XP on one and Vista on the other. I dont use Vista so these errors are from within XP.

Both OS's boot fine. But If I open Partition Magic it tells me there is a problem with the partition tables (relating to the length of the drive) on the disk my OS's are installed on. It says it can fix, and has fixed the problem, but it hasnt. It then labels the disk as 'Bad' in patition magic, not even showing that its cut in half. If I open up Disk Management though the management console in XP it shows the disk fine, and shows both partitions, yet the second half with Vista on has no drive letter and wont let me add or change the drive letter. But, and heres where it gets strange, both halfs of the disk (C: and V: ) show up fine in My Computer, and can be browsed. Both partitions work fine, but all disk software seems to think there broke? This isnt really an issue except I wont be able to move the partitions if i choose too? Is there any way I can check the dist and fix it without having to reinstall?

Cheers

Edit: Oh yeah, i also get some kind of 'rebuilding boot loader' message or something and bootup before I get to choose the OS. Ill try and get a picture.
