Is there a way to improve your reading speed?

I'm actually trying to go the other way. I find my eyes wandering over pages too quickly when I'm reading a book at times. This means I skip important bits of the story, which in turn annoys me.

I also used to write too quickly - missing off the end of the word I'm writing and instead putting the first few letters of the word I was intending to write next. Very hard to describe without a particular example, and it doesn't happen to me when typing, only hand-writing something.

Sorry to be of absolutely no use to you whatsoever :p

I used to do that quite a lot. When i'm writing my minds thinking about the next sentence and I end up making totally stupid spelling mistakes etc.

I find that I can read very quickly, but I find it pointless because I don't take on board what is being said as in depth as if I was reading normally.

Practice makes perfect to be honest :p

Does anyone else find that their reading and writing speeds decrease once they become fatigued? Personally, I do find this to be the case.

I also find that my vocabulary suffers as I struggle to find certain words with the correct semantic.

Yeah I know how you feel. In the past i've rushed essays and worked far into the early hours of the morning, as it gets later the quality of my writing deteriorates.

not sure if I can speed read, but I can flip though papers in seconds looking for certain words. As a kid I could read in a book a day or so

.

If you speed read does that mean you don't digest the information you are supposed be? This was a common fault of fine which lead to my dyselxia at an early age. I tend to read slowly now rather than racing through and skipping bits. Saves time having to read something more than twice as well.

The only way to speed up is to practise really. I can speed read and read normally but quickly. Speed reading means I barely process what Im reading and within a few weeks it's more or less forgotten.

It takes a while to get up to speed but if I pick up a book, within ten pages I can be down to 10 seconds per page or thereabouts.

I did start a spead reading course, however never had time to finish it, but my overall reading time improved greatly, As did my thinking time, I learnt that I dont need to think in words...

E.G Hmm I think today I will go into town.... I can just go

*Zoom*

and have had the same thought that would normaly take me time to pronounce in around 0.1 of a second
