Is there a way to run 2 routers in the same network wirelesly ?

If you connect one router to another router like that then you will need to enable RIP on them both so that return traffic goes back through your wi-fi network.
...or disable DHCP on the wi-fi router and just use it as a wi-fi access point. Job done.

Hi which wifi router do i disable DHCP
If they're both wi-fi, what's the point in the second one?

You said it's so you don't have to change the settings on the clients. Just change the new router to the same settings as the old one, and you still won't have to change any client settings.

If you were following the topic you would see I had already suggested this to the originator of the topic. delpy8 is after a different solution.

Maybe he wants to extend the range....

The one which does not have an internet connection on the WAN port. If you want to do it this way read the whole topic is clearly says which type of cable to use, which ports to plug into and so on.

Whats RIP?
This is only relevent if you connect the two routers at layer3 (using the WAN port) and not disabling DHCP. It allows the routers to know about each others "non directly connected" subnets.

I have two wireless routers on the same network. A cable from one of the LAN ports on the main router is connected to the WAN port on the second router (Belkin N1 Vision) which shows that it is connected to the internet.

Using Inssider software shows both.

Not had any issues so far and have not touched either routers settings.

its my thread not deply8s and I have set them up to one is not a dhcp server and the other is but when i do this the router connected to the telephone line no longer gives out internet , only a local connection , any ideas ?
Sounds like you disabled DHCP on the wrong one!

Your main router (DG834PN) needs to have an active internet connection and have DHCP enabled.
You need to set DHCP Range to 192.168.XX.5 to 192.168.XX.200 (Leaving the first 5 numbers not in the DHCP Range, the XX represents .1 or .0 or .2 or whatever the IP of your router is))

On the second router (DG834GT) you need to change the LAN IP address to 192.168.XX.2. Change the WIFI setting so they are the same SSID and Password but different channels (1, 6, 11 are recomended). Finally Disable DHCP on the DG834GT.

Now plug any cat5e cable (doesnt need to be a crossover) in to both routers LAN ports.

You can now access internet from both routers, and also have access to both router web GUIs. You can change settings in the Main on by going 192.168.XX.1 and the seconds by going to 192.168.XX.2

I'm looking to do the same, but my set up is slightly different:

VM50Mbit> Netgera WNDR3700 > ____Cat5e____> Netgear 8 port switch > Edimax EW-7415PDn.

I have a weird 'dead spot' in the apartment so I needed to have the same network/SSID that gives all devices connected IP's from the WNDR3700, and the Edimax AP is just that.

But every time I've tried, the whole network crashes and nothing works.

My wireless 2.4Ghz network uses WEP2-AES encryption and I don't want to use WPA as offical Netgear firmware restricts, so now I'm upgraded to DD-WRT.

Will have to figure out how to get this to work again, I'm not sure how I can get it to work if the AP is connected via a non-crossover cable.
