I am having some problems loading win7 64bit on my new build I would like to try the latest bios version from Asus to see if that cures the problem

I have downloaded the new bios update onto a pen drive but how can I get it onto my new build when it hasnt got its operating system yet ?

I could install linux update the bios then swap the c drive for one of my new ones and go for a win7 load again ? or is there an easier way

Mobo is Asus P6TD deluxe

Here is the original unable to load win 7 problem in more detail

Thanks for any help

I am just about to try that, I am a newbie first time builder so probably dont know a lot of what you guys will take for granted.

do I have to do anything other than dump the bios update on a pen drive and set the bcurrent bios to boot from the pen drive first ? any other update I should do from asus while I am at it ?

Thanks

You can from within the BIOS update the BIOS to a current version. Look under the tools menu in the BIOS, or hit ALT + F2 when during POST to access the EZ Flash program. No need to boot off the USB stick.

just updated the bios to latest but still having same problem trying to load win7
can I update to all the latest mother board updates via this utility or is there some other way

it will load a xp install disc but doesn't recognise either the win 7 64 or 32 discs

it comes back with "select proper boot device or insert boot media"

I burn the Bios image (unzipped) to a DVD/CD RW and press delete, enter the flash utility from there find the DVD/CD drive, flash the BIOS and that's it!
Did it the other week with the new version for the Rampage Extreme 2 :D

Sounds like you haven't got a proper ISO copy of 7. Make sure that your primary boot device is set to the DVD drive. You'll need to make sure that you've got a DVD reader or writer as Windows 7 comes on DVD only.

its a genuine win7 dvd fresh out of the wrapper, but I just disconnected the new sata drive and stuck in an old IDE drive that has been in the garage for years and it has started to load !! so I am in the middle of my new win7 install now

strange that the sata drive didn't like win7 but ok with an xp disc ?

thanks for all the suggestions

what is the sata set to in the bios?

You should be able to use EZFlash from within the BIOS by using a USB stick, without an OS installed. :)

i still dont see how updating the bios will allow windows 7 to install, it will install on one of our first skt 775 mobos, and as yours is a 'new build' im guessing the mobo isnt 4 years old. i would say its either an issue with the hdd itself, although if winxp picks up then doubtful, or one of the settings in the bios isnt right. does it even recognise the dvd, as in say press any key to boot cd, or does it not even check, or does it check but skip it?

well windows 7 installed (via the old drive) installed software disc from asus but the sata drive still cant read the win 7 install disc so I am guessing its the drives fault
its Samsung SH-S222
