Is there any bad points to having a side window on your PC case

You can see the dust, and eventually you will feel the need to do something about it. Oh everyone pretends they clear out their case every couple of weeks to maximise efficiency but they know it's secretly a chore.

Also, if you leave your PC on overnight for any reason, you'll have the light of a thousand suns obnoxiously illuminating every crevice in the room. You will have neon dreams.

And, you cant really soundproof a window. Your menagerie of 80mm fans will drown out the silence in your life.

Yup, you can see all the messy wires and dust build up as the guys above said, but you will also be called a geek by your other half (i was) and some of your friends will think you are a bit sad too. If you can live with that and you can keep the wires tidy and the inside dust free you could get a light controller that can turn off the neons when you try to sleep. This way you get to see your expensive parts when you want :P Only reason I dont have a window on my current case is becuase you cant buy one for it and I dont want to make a hole in my side panel myself.

Also you can put on the solid side panel for when your friends come around so you dont get called bad names :p

Most of my friends seemed to think a window was pretty cool. As said above though you cant sound proof one. If you want one get as long as your pc is tidy it will look fine.

this is the exact reason why i don't have windows. first of all because i can't see the dust so it does not exist :p . secondly the lights would drive me crazy, i have left my computer overnight before and had to upplug all the fans to stop it acting as a runway becon.

a side window can be nice aslong as you have fan controllers and are able to turn off the lights otherwise your case will light up like a christmas tree

Side Panels with windows , are for shop display imho. Nice if you can be bothered to keep it tidy and clean. Not for me no more, too much effort.

The only reason to have a window is purely cosmetic. If the cables are neat and the insides are generally tidy then they can look good.

But my PC is stuck under my desk, I never get to see inside it.

If the PC was somewhere out in the open and on show they I'd definately go the whole hog the lights etc.

I used to have an old Antec Lanboy that I kept really neat and tidy. Had a nice couple of blue tubes inside, LED fans etc, etc. It looked cool, but at the end of the day, that's it!

I think it can look OK, and does make you keep it all tidy Heres mine, not been dusted since built in about July last year but still looking OKish.

There's a place in Ely where they'll laser-cut your side-panel and put a window in it for you. Not massively expensive either. I can't link to them as they would be competitors :(
