Is there any hope for my 3800?

Ive just changed cases, and in the process my x2 no longer works.

Either its somehow died in the last half hour from reasons unknown, or the psu isnt getting enough power maybe?

My 3000 still works, so its def the cpu or psu.

Whats the difference in power requirement between an x2 and an a64?

If you changed case and it stopped working, my immediate thought would be that it has been exposed to static electricity and been fried?

Could be down to the PSU, but if its the same PSU, the chip is definately out.

One last thing, have you tried clearing the CMOS through the jumpers? Always worth a try!

Hope you get it sorted,
John

well i accidently put 1.85v through my amd 4400x2 when i had no idea about overclocking, it blew my psu but my cpu was fine after clearing cmos and getting new psu lol

Tried resetting the CMOS? May work if the multi or HTT has somehow got set to an incorrect value.

PSU not changed, right?

If so, further diagnosis of the chip will be required:
  • How did you handle it? Like John.Goold siad, static elec highly likely. Think I also fried my old 9800PRO which bro was using this week :(
  • Any pins bent or anything attached to them?
  • Have any other PC you can test it in, a friends maybe?

Ive got another 939 mobo that ill test it in.

Its a 525 watt Hiper, powers the same rig with an a64 (1.65v) fine

Its had 1.8v before (courtesy of matt100 ;) ) but worked fine since, as for handling it, i just laid it on a piece of paper til i was ready to use it.

Cleared cmos, cpu looks fine, no damage.

i changed case once and my system didnt post it was cos of mobo bios, it died lol but DFI sent me new bios and it worked but in ** case the mobo works but cpu does not.

try and connect just 1 dim of ram, 1 hdd, 1 cd room and thats it and see if you post.

it does not work as in it wont boot with the x2 in but it will with a 3000, tried all combos of ram.

Am gonna flash the bios to see if that works

Can you be more specific when you say it wont boot.
Does it even turn on at all
Does the moniter turn on
Does it load the Bios
Does it turn on then turn immidiatly off again.
Does it make it to the Windows load screen
Does the Mobo make any beeps
Makes it easier to see if its Hardware, Heat or Software related.
cheers

She boots, she scores!

Seems to be working fine after ive flashed the bios, which makes no sense to me but hey, least it works!

Thanks for the help guys :D

we tried to intentionally fry a processor once using a van der graf generator, on a willamette core pentium IV, with no luck, however we wasted a AMD duron, it wouldn't work again :) its hard to break things with static  magnetism on the other hand, what a blast to mess with, hard disk + powerful electromagnet = funky stuff
