I think for anyone that games the 226bw is still the best choice of 22" monitor. If you are more likely to just be doing general office-based tasks and/or movie-watching then the HP w2207 no doubt edges ahead.
Anyway, to say they will be obsolete is stretching things. I see large numbers of people still just using 17"/19" monitors and not even widescreen at that so all these larger models are likely to be around for some time yet.
