Is there any point in TRI SLI?

Other than for benching?

I recently installed a 3rd 780 Classified and the only benefit i have seen is a higher Firestrike, Valley and Heaven Score

I game at 2560x1600 and have noticed far more micro stutter with 3 cards (BF4, Sniper Elite 3) than I did with 2 making the gaming experience worse rather than better.

I had it in my head I wouldn't be keeping the 3rd card long but I always wanted to give it a go and I don't think ill lose much selling it on so its no great loss.

I just wondered what other peoples experience of 3 card SLI set ups has been?
Thanks
Scott

I run 3 Titans and have assigned one of them as a dedicated PhysX card, as currently for me, Tri-SLI isn't very good and I get the same issues as you. nVidia will hopefully fix this, as I have 3 Titans to last me a long time.

From my experience 3 cards only come into their own at 4K, Also good for e-Peen and benchmarking :p

I had 470 tri sli and 670 tri sli was worse of then two card most of the time.

But on the other side I tried out my mates 295x2 with one of my 290x's and it scaled brilliantly and was literally plug and play which I was rather shocked about.

Btw I'm not bias to either company as I have owned 290x's 7970's 780's 670's 470's 480's and a 970

So normally im more of a 'green' man lol :D

Please correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't SLI/Crossfire fall quickly into the law of diminishing returns?

(one card =1, second card +1/2, third card +1/4).

If so it seems to be a very expensive exercise and for most possibly not worth it past 1 card or 2 at a push.

Depends on the game, though scaling is usually better than that.

As for whether it's worth it... I dunno, I'm just in it for the pimp factor until I get a new screen.

Nope

1 card = X, 2 cards = 1.5X - 2X depending on the game

SLI is the sweet spot tbh!

Not in my experience you don't.
If you're talking about the absolute ideal for squeezing every last drop on certain benchmarks, then sure. Other than that, my old 2600K on a PLX board would beg to differ.

If you were gaming at 4k and had 20(24) PCI-E lanes to share then once you factor in SATA devices and the like the third card would be limited at 4x speeds.
