Is there any point upgrading my gfx cards?

I am very fortunate to have approx £1k to spend on possible upgrades and most likely graphics card(s) upgrades but is there real justification in upgrading at the moment?

My 26" monitor is 1920 x 1200.

Present Spec:

Core i7 920 @ 4GHz
6GB DDR3
CF 5870's
120GB Vertex 3 SSD
Antec 902
Tagan 880W
Biostar TPower X58

Would appreciate some feedback.

Ta :)

I can't see how a crossfire 5870 setup would struggle to handle even the most recent games at that resolution. So on that basis I would so no, not worth a gfx upgrade at the moment in my opinion.

If that 1k is REALLY burning a hole in your pocket right now and you must spend it then have you considered Eyefinity?

Mate, you have a great system. No need to upgrade. Save your money until next year and get a ivy bridge cpu and 28nm graphics card. At least with those you will notice a big difference.

Only thing I can say would be worth it for you would be 30" monitor. Your CF 5870's will be fine at 2560x1600 until the new 28nm cards come out :)

No, I don't think there is that much point tbh, have you noticed any performance problems?

Personally I don't think so. A CF 6950 or unlocked 6950/6970s will be quicker, and a semi decent improvement in Heavy DX11 apps but your current setup should still manage them fine.

If you could get good prices on your 5870s and it only worked out < £100 to upgrade to CF 6950s and flash them then I would say it would be a decent upgrade path, but only if your 5870s are actually having problems :)

Otherwise I would wait untill the 28nm cards come along.

Big thank you for your mega prompt replies guys.Really appreciate it. :-)

Gonna save the money for next time round as not struggling with anything at present.

May have a sneak at Eyefinity?

Get another iiyama 26" @ £250?? What do you think?

Ideas:

1) Have the case covered in Gold leaf.

2) Buy loads of monitors, attach them to a wall, buy DEFCON and a General's uniform, and pretend you're in NORAD.

3) Take your PC on holiday somewhere nice to thank it for the fun times it has given you

4) Get more RAM (you can never have enough RAM)

Eyefinity with only 2 monitors means a nice big black pillar in the middle of your field of view (from the monitor bezels). Go for 3 monitors in total to avoid this situation :)

Thanks Timco,

Got a problem with space for 3 as PCs are in a cupboard with only enough room for two :(

In that case I would save the money and see how the next round of graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD perform. Should be released around the "usual time" of late autumn to early winter.

LOL Code13.

Are you from planet Earth?

No. THE NORTH!!! *Dramatic Music*

I just wanted to suggest some ideas rather than simply replacing parts with newer ones. If you've got that amount of money to spend on upgrades why not spend it on something really interesting. Like turning a Garage into a War Room.
