Is there any reason not to install a 64bit OS now?

if you use usb internet then forget about it... i cant get it to work, and there isnt much support for finding a solution.

im either going to have to network my pc's together through an xp laptop for connection, or rollback to xp 32bit and lose 2gb ram to get my pc to connect to the internet :(

What is USB internet? Do you mean using a USB modem? If you've checked the manufacturers site for new drivers then why not just buy a cheap router?

If you have multiple PCs in your house then it makes perfect sense.

No XP x64 was awesome and providing you had modern hardware and didn't try to use some USB printer/scanner the driver support was fine.

That's not entirely true. I installed XP x64 a while ago and was amazed to find that Windows Live applications won't install as they aren't supported (Messenger and Live Mail). I'm sure you could hack your way round it, but I couldn't see anything obvious, so that experiment was short lived!

no-one should use usb internet

get a router

and yes, XP64 was godly :)

I never had any problems using MSN on XP x64 back when I was using it a year or so ago...

Certainly the Live applications aren't supported, and as I use Live Mail it meant XP x64 was a no-no. It was only going on the laptop as an experiment, so I just scrubbed the partition and continued using Vista x64.

It wouldn't. You just confused people by referring to it as USB internet, which could mean anything, when in fact you're talking about mobile broadband.

if vista was only available in 64bit then progress would have been a bit quicker.
as it is...my experience of vista wasnt great so im still on xp.

if vista was only available in 64bit and microsoft were trying to push people into using a 64bit os i would have been far more forgiving towards vista.

I got msn working on xp 64, you need the msi file.

I'll be upgrading in a couple of weeks when I swap my mobo and get some more ram. Right now I'm using 32 bit XP with a Vista skin but it doesn't really compare.

what else could ussb internet mean? its the internet, connected by a usb dongle... so i called it usb internet... but for arguments sake, yes its mobile internet.

So... mobile internet doesnt work with 64bit, so if you have mobile internet and want to upgrade to 64 bit then your going to run into quite a few problems.

Im trying to get windows 7 to connect to my xp laptop but its becoming a nightmare. not sure im liking the whole 64 bit and windows 7 bandwagon at the moment.

Got a vodafone 3g dongle that works fine on Windows Vista x64 and Windows Server 2008 x64 here.

The version of mobile connect on the device didn't work, but the one you can download from the vodafone website works fine.

Doesn't like Windows 7 x64 or x32 at all though. :(

Try running the installer in Vista SP1 compatibility mode. If it installs fine try configuring the installed applications to run in Vista SP1 compatibility mode.
