Is there any way of disabling a core in my FX 6300?

Recently I took my gaming PC to a shop to see if they could find out the problem, which they did and it turns out that my CPU has a faulty core which causes the whole PC to freeze up. So my question is: are there any ways that I could disable this faulty core and thus run games for the time being before I upgrade to an i5 4690K mobo and CPU rebuild?

Sorry if this question has an obvious answer, it's been a long time since I last talked about the different features of my PC! Thanks in advance for any answers.

You should be able to disable cores in your bios.

I used to have an Fx6300,in my bios i could disable 'Core Modules'

There should be 3 seperate core modules you can disable,disable the module relating to the core that is is the faulty one.You are turning off 2 cores tho not just one,due to the CPU architecture of Fx series processors.

You cant disable a single core,only in pairs of two.

You can do it in BIOS.
Alternatively, try MSCONFIG for individual cores. There's some boards that allow you to disable a core per module in the BIOS however.

Just up the volts IMO, go into bios and find vcore and increase it slightly untill it stops crashing

Up the volts gradually. Download Prime95 or OCCT to test all the cores at 100% load in windows.

Before all that, return it under warranty if possible.

Also I have to ask just how would you or in this case the shop diagnose one faulty core, surely it would just be a faulty CPU. Off of the top of my head I cannot even think how to test for a individual faulty CPU core.

A particular core failing under prime for example would show up time and time again. I vote for the upping voltage suggestion.

Up the CPU voltage to 1.45 - 1.475V, while there you could increas the LLC settings if you are getting vdroop under load (look at vcore in HWmonitor when gaming).

No need to test with prime if not running an overclock, just use your computer normally.

If it has been ruled that is 1 of the cores is it still under warranty if so why don't you RMA it and get it replaced
