Is there any way to force Windows 7 to cache more (use MORE RAM)?

RAM is getting pretty cheap these days so I'm looking for an excuse to buy some.

I experimented with a RAM drive but I didn't really like that idea (made another thread about that in memory section if interested).

So, with all this free memory that everyone has these days, is there any way to configure Windows prefetch to load more stuff onto RAM? It seems a waste just letting it sit there doing nothing :p

Windows manages the RAM usage pretty well, if you want things semi pre-loaded you might want to consider an SSD (rapid) or a hybrid drive if you regularly use the same apps etc.

I'm not sure forcing Windows 7 into always bloating it's ram would be particularly effective in speeding anything up.

Yeh I'm quite happy with how W7 manages it atm, and I have an SSD.

I suppose it's fairly limited by 32bit applications. I was wondering if it is possible to load certain games into the RAM when the computer starts so it's extra zippy!

W7 already uses up RAM quite well with the cache, but there is still at least 4GB completely free at times.

If you have an SSD I don't see any real advantage. Regardless - If you want to 'load a game to RAM' when Windows starts then.....just open it when Windows starts? :p

OK I'll get to the point. You know the little 10-15 second loading bar when you start a game of L4D2 for example? Well, I don't want that - time is precious! :p

I understand that some of that time will be down to loading graphics textures and downloading server information etc, but I don't really know what the ratios are (someone enlighten me? :D).

Loading bar?

You cannot join a map before the server has loaded it anyway. My L4D2 takes about 5 seconds before it is usable from launching. Most of which is cancelling the movie.
