Is there anything im missing???

Wow interesting info on the GT/GTS differences.

Thanks for all the advice/suggestions etc, very much appreciated.
Have to say after spending a few weeks on various forums this is easily the best based on experiance, response time, sheer volume of replies etc.

Anyway......

Due to the fact that I cant be bothered to wait 90 days to wait for a new release of GTS graphics card I am basing everything on technology available today.

I have come up with a slightly revised parts list and with the addition of a cpu cooler still works out at about £149 cheaper than before (always a good thing).

£75 Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
£68 Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)
£99 Asus P5K-E WiFi Intel P35

£160 Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
£40 Thermal Ultra 120 Extreme CPU Cooler
£152 OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPX800EB4GK)
£176 EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (512-P2-E801-AR)

£140 2 X Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (ST3500320AS)
£30 Optical drive
£20 Sound card
£10 Thermal compound

£970 Total

Looks like a nice spec to me, although you could save more by getting Geil or similar RAM. I like OCZ myself (see spec in signature), but many people will say there is little point in spending more.

Why 2X2GB? If money doesn't matter then cool but if it does then 4x1GB is ~£75 cheaper. Are you going to use more than 4gb RAM? Have you got a 64bit OS to support the 4GB?

What optical drive are you getting for £30? Is a sound card needed?

I belive the 500gb WD drives are a bit better than Seagate 500gb ones but not to sure.

Few things to think about but other than that it's all good ;):D

EDIT: You will also need a 120mm fan for that cooler. I belive these are the best atm

I am going to be using 2x2GB modules because I believe RAM is best to run with less modules. That and I didnt want to go for DDR3 originally so thought if I buy DDR2 ram but in 2GB modules I can in the future add more if required to compensate for not having the DDR3 memory.

Does anybody know if its true that Vista cant actually see more than 7GB of RAM? Just curious.

I am currently running XP but will be getting VISTA ULTIMATE 64bit.

The optical drive im going to be getting is Sata DVD Re-Writer (Probably Samsung or similar make). They are normally about £20-£25 but set the price at £30 just incase.

Sound card I can probably do away with in all honesty just figured why not whilst im spending a hefty wedge of my hard earned money.
:)

Please humour me....

Why do I need a fan for the CPU Cooler?
Surely the cpu cooler disperses the heat itself?

Thanks
It will "radiate" heat yes, but not nearly fast enough for your nice CPU to not cook itself. It needs circulating air passing over the fins to actively cool the CPU.

Fair enough.
So is it not better to just get something similar to Zalman's CNPS9700LED as its a fan unit straight away?

Anybody got any thoughts on this as opposed to the Thermal Ultra 120 Extreme CPU Cooler
