Privacy? Why would you ring someone who you didn't want to be able to ring you, do you ring people you don't like or something? And what company would you be ringing, that didn't already know your phone number?
All of my friends and family have my phone number. The only companys to have my home number are my ISP and Phone provider. My bank, utility suppliers, insurance companies etc etc etc only have my mobile number and only then if I deem it necessary.
There isn't any reason for companies to harvest phone numbers, when they can dial every number one after the other.
Lists of legitimate numbers with contact names are as good as currency, there is every reason for them to make a note of this information.
:Witheld numbers are only 'witheld' from the consumer anyway, so any abusive/threatening calls can be traced to source in moments by the phone company.
If only that was the reality of it....
If the call is intercepted by request then it is the reality. Try ringing 999 from a 'witheld number' they will immediately tell the service requested the number you are calling from.
Anonymity is synonymous with longevity.
