getting married, having a mortgage, kids followed by the same job until retirement??? (not forgetting the few minutes of happiness you have along the way i.e. wife giving birth, anniversaries, wedding, holidays etc etc)

or is that what most 27yrs old do?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm currently 27 and have the responsible job, mortgage, not getting married but the girlfriend lives with me, no kids. Tis something I guess. Welcome to life? ;)

the older we get of course brings more responsbilities BUT does it have to? I guess it depends on what we want in life...whats for me maybe not for the rest of peeps etc...

it seems like this is what the world does no matter what country its just a case of being like sheep...

i know lets get a mortgage and struggle paying it back and enjoy those 2 days a week we so love but disappear so quickly whilst in tesco doing the weekly shop or getting to finally enjoy 1 night of the weekend - sat - then spending most of sunday regretting it...

sounds so monotanous to me....

I NEED A CHANGE lol

Id had to get out of 9-5, it was killing me
(just 2 years after graduation!)

I quit and work for myself from home - much happier now :)

what dya do working from home?

must be earning a fair bit?

dont u find you work longer then the 9 - 5 as you find it harder to switch off as your home is your place of work?

Online marketing, we have done ok the last 6 months but it's not really about the money. It's about the freedom and the better quality of life. I would still do this if I earnt £700 per month. I tend to spend far too long on the computer, but half of that time is spent doing unproductive stuff - like chat here :D

For a change, sell all your possessions, bank the cash, grab your passport and travel the world whist we still can. A lot of people simply cant do this due to debt, family, children, fear - dont be one of them.

I have done it twice and each time it was magnificent and provided a great change in my life perspective.

I now have a mortgage, wife and kids and work full time. Quit different from world travel. The key is to love your wife ( marry well ), enjoy the time with your kids.

I really dont know what I would do with my time without them all aside from game more, drink more and be more selfish. When this all gets mundane I will change jobs, or once again sell the house, sell the kit and take the family around the world. It has always worked for me.

Dont let the things you own, own you. You have 1 life, live it because once it gone - your gone. If you fancy a change make the plan and follow it.
good luck - life is not easy and a change in perspesctive shows you how lucky we are to beable to sit here and moan on a forum when elsewhere 18% of the worlds popluation live on less than $1 a day. Go and see their smiles.

get a life eh?
who says you need to shop on a weekend, 24 hour super markets, online ordering and delivery...
why get so drunk on a sat night that sunday becomes pointless?

if you dont like life, change it.

kitejumper<---- this man speaks the truth :)

I can relate to your last paragraph in which you mention, dont let the things you own, own you...fortunately I don't (not saying you said I did) but I have been feeling very "routinised" thats what I call it...

A change I think is what is required and what is necessary, as you say the world is a big place, so many people living on small incomes BUT they have that smile, the freshness, the willinginess to want to try and give you things even if they dont own much themselves...

A change is what is required for me personally, also recently I noticed I somehow got stuck in a cycle of looking at things I didnt have, not intentionally of course and its like only today I realised how much my life has changed in the past year for the better, what I have acheived over this past year and that most importantly I must always look at what I do have and what I have acheived without being arrogant or eccentric of course..

I live in London, I dont know about other areas in U.K. but I think its very easy to get "stuck in a rut" which becomes mundane I feel privileged to have the ability to have a different insight because I feel deep down I know there is much more to be doing....I am really lucky I have a great gf and to be in a great relationship....Like for example this year Ive moved twice - now in a great place although renting it will do for now, had 4 different jobs and its really getting somewhat monotanous now so much so that I thinking there must be a way for me and my gf to enjoy eachother more and to temporarily break free from the robotic life we seem to be living at the moment..

thanks a lot pal, really appreciate your comments, your like a breathe of fresh air...

moving twice and having 4 different jobs in last year... maybe you need to settle somewhere then take stock of things.

as for doing things, you have loads of airports near you, weekends away (even just a sat night) are cheap to most of europe.
london has loads to do, loads of places are near by.

perhaps i wanna go for longer..

thanks :p

... of course there is more to life than a wife, kids and a mortgage. The world is rather large compared to you - go out and see it.

So many people say what they want without doing anything about it.

Yes there is more to life but you end up on your own with **** all to show for it about 25 years later :p

At the beginning of the year my girlfriend turned to me and said she wanted to try and have children.
Having only gone out with her for three months and being 20 at the time, I told her where the door was.

It made me think about what I was doing with my life, I'd been in the same job for over 3 years (well paid as it was), I had a mortgage, a dodgy back and a Ford Mondeo.

What did I do? I sold my house, got a bike license and in March I'm riding to Australia through the EU, Iran, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Malaysia and The Philippines.

Must say I'm looking forward to it :)

you dont need to do any of that. There is no rulebook on how you should live your life. And dude if your life only has mere minutes of happiness on holidays and other occasions etc then you need to change your life.
Getting a mortgage in this country for me is mad considering the insane house prices.

For me every day is happiness :)
