Is there software to backup programs/data and user settings on windows?

I am wondering this because I want to move to windows 7 with a fresh install, but I do not want to loose all settings and stuff on programs..

It is part of Vista and 7. Not sure about XP. Search for it online. It is quite easy to use and you can save the files anywhere you need to.

Handy Backup can do it well, it's a reliable backup software for Windows (files, programs, settings). Easy to use and full featured. My company uses Handy Backup Server for Windows network backup.

Windows Easy Transfer won't backup programs, only program settings. You'll have to re-install all your programs after you do a clean install
