Is there still a nightclub scene these days?

Totally agree, never ever got the clubbing thing. Loved the music but not the clubs themselves. Ever since I was 17 I was a pub guy instead. Found the prices, decor, atmosphere and the ability to actually talk normally to people without screaming, far more enjoyable.

Sadly, even good pubs with decent prices are becoming rare now. At the grand old age of 40, I had already moved on to cosy nights in with cheaper beer, no cold rain or expensive cabs home, good grub and good company. Can have a vape indoors too.

Yup we are the same age, I grew up in North London my friend group used to go out clubbing.

A lot of of the time I'd just go home before the last tube as the nightbus was erm... interesting... in those days.

We used to go to ones in Leicester Square, electric ballroom and another called Storm, Storm was awful the worst of the lot.

Also some dodgy place in Wood Green over the road from the Wetherspoons more or less, that place was awful as well.

To be fair thinking back we used to go to some kind of Havana club (or Latin themed) in Charing cross that wasn't too bad, and another club called Tiger Tiger in London which on reflection I actually had a few really good nights in.

So not all bad I guess.

See, now all those places would be called commercial/cheese clubs by 'proper' clubbers xD

Like Oceana and Infernos are not the same as Fabric, Turnmills, SE1, Fridge, Koko, Egg, etc.

Clubbing is still massively popular as is the illegal rave/squat party scene.

Went to a squat party in an abandoned cinema in Brixton the other weekend, first one I’ve been too in yonks but was just like the ones I used to go to every weekend in my 20s. Lasted for 2 days before police eventually shut it down.

Wreckeheads galore, lots of tourist ravers and of course loads of Italians shotting and consuming copious amounts of LSD.

Genuinely amusing how little things have changed from the 90s/00s.

Will have to also agree about the 3-10pm day raves. Nothing better than having a good afternoon session and going hard in the evening and to still be in bed before midnight
We're a group just hitting our 40s now. Love it :D

What happened to DSI, Don't Stay In?
DSI, that's a blast from the past!! It used to be great back in the day.

I really should look into some events as I kinda miss the old hard trance nights. The trouble is, everyone I know is grown up with kids now and my missus isn't into it either.

That was a crazy website.
All club nights etc were posted there, people had their own profiles and social media style stuff too.

#showingmyage

Used to love DSI! Met up with a few people on there a few times when at NYE@NEC and spotted myself out on many nights

Felt like social media would've killed that site off.

My wife HATES dance music, so I just went to the past few Trance Sanctuarys solo :D

Yeah these day raves are great for us 40 somethings.

Can't even imagine rocking up to start a night a 1am these days.

In 2022-present, I have done a mix of both day and night raves and both have been a blast.

Is there a list somewhere of day raves?

- 2023 April, Trancecoda, Nottingham, The Level
- 2023 June, Cream, Coventry, Kasbah
- 2023 August, Ministry of Sound, Lichfield, Beacon Park
- 2023 October, Amnesia House, Coventry, Kasbah

Those are some that I went to last year and would like some more ideas :-)

The best night raves in recent times (2024) for me have been the Passion ones at the Leicester O2.
