Are things really this bad already??

Was standing in the queue behind a woman in Sainsbury just now and her bill came to something like £13. Out comes the old happy card. Swipe...denied. Puzzled, but out comes the next card...denied. Next....denied. Next....denied.
She then pulls out the whole war chest and I swear to God, there were something like 20 credit cards, has a look, but funnily enough she doesn't bother offering more. Hmmmmm....perhaps she knows something :D

She then starts the obligatory face saving puzzled look head bobbing blaming the poor checkout girl that the chip and pin machine is broken. Never mind the fact that the guy before her used it perfectly well. The girl assures her that it's working fine and that they get many customers a day with 5+ maxed out credit cards (getting in a little dig in the process :D ). She then wants to pay with a cheque but gets told where to go. She starts moaning again but the manager (who showed up by now)tells her straight up "Come back with money next time miss". She then stomps off in her expensive looking clothes (at least looking the part) still bitching about the "awful service I got".

Afterwards the checkout girl tells me that in her shift alone this happens about 5+ times.

And people say we don't need the state to nanny us..

I have one, and only use it because I couldn't be bothered going to get a debit card...

And should it not be, 'Are things this bad already??'

Debit cards are where it's at... well, until you want to buy something and find the store/retailer doesn't accept your card :(

Credit cards are perfectly safe and reliable forms of payment if you're sensible with them.

Idiots who spend more than they earn, give them a bad reputation.

Ask your bank for a visa debit. Works like a visa, but with no waste of time credit side to things.

If you think thats bad try the idiots that come in just to buy a newspaper and out comes the denied credit cards.

Dunno where you shop but I have never had my debit card rejected...

I use my credit cards for large purchases for the extra security and to pay off bit by bit with 0% finance. Works well for me!

I'm with Abbey and have a Visa Electron.

Do you think they'll be to give me a proper Debit card?

Adam, well, loads of places accept Electron now, compared to 2 years ago. Was trying to order something from Car Audio Direct but they don't accept them yet.

I certainly hope so, visa electron is a kiddy card  Ask them for a proper visa debit/cheque guarantee card.

Cool, will pop in after Christmas. :)

Had an Electron since I opened my account. I had just turned 18 at the time. Maybe that's why I got an Electron.

Switch/Maestro is hardly the most exclusive of payment methods :p I can't see why they wouldn't? I have had my Switch card for years.

Something that really wound me up. My girlfriend earns around £16k a year and was offered a platinum card by Llyods TSB. So much for exclusivity hey....

Its about monthly spend, i dont earn mega bucks yet have had a platinum card with natwest for a good year or so now, due to large monthly spends which always got cleared (business expenses during large customer rollouts)

I use my credit card all the time and then pay it off at the end of the month....there is nothing wrong with credit cards....

Off course there aren't. I only use mine to pay my gamespot and newsgroups subscription. Everything else goes on the debit card
