Is things really this bad already??

I'm going to reserve judgement on this one, as I know how easy it is for staff behind a till to completely ignore a voice authorisation request and just tell customers the card has declined. It's not always the customer who is the idiot.

Even after the manager was called in to have a look himself? Surely they would've taken the time to authorise after all the commotion?

I've had customers call me and tell me that has happened, and upon inspection there have been multiple referral requests in that store.

EDIT: it's extremely common at this time of year, when people are hammering all of their cards every day.

Don't blame credit cards! People need to be more responsible with spending money, all these debt consolidation adverts try and make out how horrible it must be for all these vunerable people who have been sucked into debt by evil credit cards. If you overspend, it's your own fault!

ugh my last customer last night at 10pm, when the store had closed came to my checkout with a £200 trolley and then her card had to be authorised. I hate last minute customers.

We visited a company in Arizona for training this Summer & the Director took us out for a meal at the end of the week.

He brought out a Black American Express card (which was called something fancy & not platinum)

He told us the card had a $250,000 credit limit on it and it had the number of a personal advisor on the back (on call 24x7) should he get into difficulties using it. I think he said the fee for such a card was around $2000 a year.

The card just looked like a flashy black Debit card though ;)

Funnily enough all the waitresses did their best to please us and even the manager of the establishment came over and sat down for a chat ;)

I was under the impression that an amex black was unlimited? My father has one (possibly might be through his company, i am not sure) which doesnt have a limit on it as far as i know.
