Is this a bargain for £500?

My mate has hit hard times and needs money.
He's offered me his new PC for what looks like a bargain and I just so happen to be in the market for building a new one anyway.
If I buy it I'll feel so guilty because it will be the first computer since 1988 that I haven't built myself and I'll feel guilty not buying from OCUK (I send everybody else there though).
I'm not an overclocker and I don't play games but I would like a performance boost over my P4 3.6 system.
I've obviously been adding items into the OCUK basket and I can't get anywhere near the price.

C2D E6600
2GB DDR2 RAM
400GB WD HD
NEC DVD Rewriter
nVidia GeForce 7600LE
Built in TV Tuner
Wireless Keyboard + Mouse
15 in 1 Reader
Vista Premium (legit)

What do you think?

I think that set up is right on the money. Just sell the 7600 and get a 8800 series and it will be very good.

To be honest i wouldnt think its anywhere near £500, more like £350 - £400 depending on what motherboard it has and what speed the ram actually is.

does it matter if you're over paying? he's a friend, help him out a bit

if I don't take his offer others will.

Since I will NEVER overclock or play games on it I was wondering whether it will be a good performance boost over my P4 3.6 or shall I wait and build my own Quad Core system in a months time (when processor prices come down)?

£350 - £400? Maybe after the C2D price drops but considering this is a fully built system (I assume) with case, PSU, Mobo, i'd say £500 is a good deal for the buyer. You certainly couldn't build it for less, not with decent components at least !

I wouldn't pay more for something just because someone 'needs the money' - even if it is a friend. They can borrow the money, but I won't give them money! I'd even try and haggle a mate down to his lowest price ;)

You can buy that exact same spec (minus OS, keyboard and tuner I think) brand new and already built for £350 delivered. Obviously I won't link where it is.

EDIT - my mistake, for £370 delivered

Well add on the cost of OS (£70) Keyboard & Mouse set (lets say £30) and the tuner (£40). Thats back up above £500.... so anyway you look at it, its still not a bad deal..... unless you already have these components :)

Just for interests sake a similar system new from OcUK is kicking on for £600. I'd normally aim for about 2/3 of the price new to allow for depreciation but if my mate was struggling at the time and I wasn't then I'd probably just spend the £500 without a quibble (provided it was something I could use). It is a decent enough price albeit not an exceptional one. :)
