Basically I've just found this on my kitchen counter - this being after shifting a load of appliances about and exposing some back walls and pipes.

My housemate thinks it's like a garden summer thing but I'm not so sure.

Is there anybody here who can identify it please?

Bloody hell quick replies thanks chaps! Good it's not a cockroach because I'm pretty sure if you see one, than that means you have a couple of it's children too...

There called " Smelly Bugs " ( not there biological name ).

Green Shieldbug - Palomena prasina

If you pick them up they "Fart" an odour to defend themselves.

Common and not a Cockroach.

Hawthorn Shield Bug by the looks of things, common as Chavs down here in sunny Somerset :) Stick your finger near it and it should jump like buggery.

Students today eh?

I mean, with all the education and resources in this modern day vibrant Britain, you couldn't see that was a cockroach??????? ;)

noob :p

It's a Shield Bug. Most likely Palomina Prasina according to a quick Google search.

It's not a Stink bug. We're not Yanks you know ;)

They feed on plant material, and are harmless. Some of their relatives (Assassin Bugs and the like) carry really nasty disease, but these are foreign species.

Yeah it's a leaf bug. DON'T SQUASH IT OT BURN IT because they stink. You can kill it with Flash kitchen cleaner with bleach and scoop the remains into the toilet to dispose.
