Is this a decent transfer speed?

Hi chaps.

I am currently copying my Steam folder from a Samsung F3 to a Samsung S2 USB external drive.

I have not done much backing up of stuff before but as my internet speed is so slow, I will not be able to cope with downloading 260gb of Steam files. Thought this a wise move along with a few other bits and pieces.

Anyway, it is currently transfering at 24.1 MB/Second.

Is this a good speed or not? Seems a bit slow to me.

My 250GB Maxtor External Averages around that so im guessing for Externals it is?

It's fine for USB 2.

Yeah, that's pretty much normal for USB 2, my external drive is around the same.

might have been best doing the first synch with the drive internal and then just doing updates over USB, the first back up of my home server ~1.5TB was painfull on USB!

260gb?? christ that will take for ever over usb2 (and yes that speed looks around normal)

what external drive have you got? just wondering if you could take it out of its caddy and hook up using sata?

USB2 is pretty poor at transferring

35mb/s is the MAX you can get from it, depends on the usb controller
