Hey,

Is this a good build for a gaming pc and will everything be compatable?

CASE: Asus TA-210 Series Midi Tower (Black) - 360W PSU (CA-004-AS)

GRAPHIC CARD: Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-049-CO)

RAM: GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX21GB5300DC) (MY-030-GL)

CD AND DVD BURNER: Sony CRX320EE CDRW/DVD Combi Drive (Black) - OEM (CD-025-SO)

MOTHERBOARD: MSI 945P Platinum (LGA775) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-059-MS)

PROSESSOR: Intel Pentium 4 930 Dual Core "LGA775 Presler" 3.0GHz (800FSB) - Retail (CP-112-IN)

HARD DISK: Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 250GB 2500JB ATA-100 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-006-WD)

POWER SUPPLY: Ultra X-Connect 500W ATX2.0 Cable Detachable PSU - Black with UV Green (CA-002-UX)

Everything has been selected from the overclockers website and also do i need a sound card or is there one included in the parts listed above?

Thanks for you help,
Dark-nite.

If you are building it just with gaming in mind, me and just about every other member here will tell you to choose an AMD A64 processor (not fanboyism as im still on a Sckt478 P4 :p) also depending on what games you intend to play 2GB of ram would be useful aswell.

Apart from that your choice of graphics card etc looks good.

I'd get another stick of 1gb RAM tbh, some games perform a lot better with it and I am sure games in the immediate future will benefit greatly from it too.

Also I'd be wary of mixing MSI Motherboards with GeIL RAM... you may be lucky but I've had compatibility problems and have heard there are compabitility problems in general.

Also as the other guys say, AMD > Intel.. for now.

Other than that looks great.

Ok thanks once again,

So I should switch to AMD and also get a better graphics card.
The graphics cards are really expensive :( what would you think the cheapest one that would be good for the lastest games please? :p

Thanks,
Jamie. :)

In many people's opinion the x1800xt is better than the x1900xt. The x1800xt is actually the model below the x1900xt and is also cheaper. :)

Of course you could go with one of the latest Nvidia cards if you wish but I prefer ATI.

Depending on what detail settings and resolutions you wanna play on, you might want to consider saving a lot of money and going for the 256mb RAM model rather than the 512mb.

:o Oh yeah, I see. The x1800 connect3d card has a faster clock speed than the more expensive x1900 one. Weird

Anyway thankyou for all you help I appreciate it a lot,

Jamie.

It's not all about the clock speed

Do you particularly like that asus case or something as for the money a super lanboy or pc7b+ would be better for the money

AMD is definitely better for gsming & great at encoding to.

Consider something like..
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-166-AM)

MSI K9N Platinum nForce 570 (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-070-MS)

everything else could be left as is from spec above including ram, as AM2 socket now uses DDR2.

And get the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 Graphics Card, which is at a great price & quicker than both the 7900GT & X1900GT.

Great :) thankyou :D
So does this look better?

CASE: Antec Super LANBOY Aluminum Super Mini Tower Case - No PSU (CA-012-AN)
£33.49

GRAPHIC CARD: Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
£164.44

RAM: GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX21GB5300DC) (MY-030-GL)
£64.57

CD AND DVD BURNER: Sony CRX320EE CDRW/DVD Combi Drive (Black) - OEM (CD-025-SO)
£19.92

MOTHERBOARD: MSI K9N Platinum nForce 570 (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-070-MS)
£93.94

PROSESSOR: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-166-AM)
£211.44

HARD DISK: Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 250GB 2500JB ATA-100 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-006-WD)
£56.34

POWER SUPPLY: Tagan TG420-UO2 420W I-XEYE ATX2.0 Silent PSU (CA-003-TG)
£51.64

Total: 695.78

Is this better and will this PSU be ok for this computer or is there a cheaper one I can use?

Thanks a lot,
Jamie.

EDIT: Also once I have actually bought my new system and set it all up how do I go about putting on my OS especially since there is no floppy drive.

Thanks for all the quick replies :)
Jamie.

As I said mate, unless you are struggling for the extra money, I would definitely go for 2gb of RAM.

If you are planning to play something like BF2 you'll benefit from it incredibly and I am sure most of the better games coming out are going to benefit from it hugely..

All in all for the price that is a great rig. The PSU will be fine & Tagan PSU's are really good. To install OS create a boot CD.
