Is this a good build for a gaming pc?

yeah definately go with AM2. It is a few % faster across the board and is gonna be MUCh more upgradable come a years time if you fancy getting a new CPU and GFX card...
 
Lol slightly confused now on what to get. I understand that am2 is slightly faster only much a tiny bit but is it more expensive that the 939? Say for example two mobos, one 939 and the other AM2, say they are the equivelant to each other, which will be more expensive?

Yep at present AM2 is also slightly more expensive also.

If youre happy with the spec by "OzZie" then get that, it is very good & known to be reliable.
