Hi,

I'm going to buy a lot of computer parts and I want to know if this is a decent system; I want to run and record BF3 Ultra at 30fps (I am used to consoles, so I don't mind 30)

Here it goes:

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965
PSU - OCZ ModXStream 500w Pro
MOBO - Asus M5A78L-M/USB3
RAM - 8GB Vengeance 2x4 Blu
GPU - XFX 6870 DD
HDD - Old Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 160GB
CD DRIVE - Some old **** from **** system
CASE - AeroCool Strike X-One
OS - Win7 Ult 64

=======FUTURE PLANS=====
1) get 2 SSDs, one for recording one for windows 7. (like next year)
2) Another 8 GB of ram (in several months)
3) lots of sickleflows and a hyper 212 to overclock to around 4/4.2 or higher using air ( in about a month or two)

I am trying to stay in budget of around £350. I would love if I could somehow save another £20/30 as that is how much im over budget by.

If anybody knows the parts I should downgrade or the parts that I really should upgrade & the cheapest sites for them, please don't hesitate to tell me!

Do you already own a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate or is that what you are looking to buy? If you don't you could save money by getting Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional instead.
What resolution does the monitor you'll be using run at?

AMD because cheap reliable, and good for OC.
Urm I think its SATA (has the red sata cable) but thats for the hard drive, it's got a massive strip for the CD/Drive.

I have "aquired" win 7 ult.
Urm its only a 15in for now, it uses VGA ( bought an adapter ) I dont know the max res for 15 in TFT screens, possibly 1444x850 or something

Also; anybody got tips on removing a stuck CD/DVD drive? the nut is lodged in, and the philips head bit is totally ****ed.

Then that build should run nicely :)
As for the optical drive, they are inexpensive and shouldn't be too much of a problem if you find out you can't use it.

What could BF3 run on ultra? & Skyrim aswell?

Also what on earth is anti-aliasing because many people call it a load of **** to just ruin performance, is it the sort of thing that people can't live without?

Yep BF3 on ultra with no AA, and Skyrim.
Anti-aliasing (AA) practically just smooths edges:

Sweet.

I (yes I know its a silly question) am going to ask for the FPS on Minecraft.. apparantly it relies more on the CPU, and the RAM.

Seeing as my CPU aint ****, (or is it?) and nor is my RAM (I swear 8gb is good) how much FPS do you think I could get in that low-end game?

People have been telling me that the HD 6870 has minecraft problems, and only reaches 40-50fps.. this can't be true can it?

You should be looking at a minimum of 60 fps with everything maxed out. If not, Optifine helps a lot in FPS boosting :)
And your RAM and CPU is good, no need to worry :P

That is true. Some people look for FPS above 100 however the human eye can only see improvements up to the 60fps area.
