My computer died a few weeks ago, so im going to buy a few new things for it. Im going to buy a motherboard, processor, ram and a power supply. I havnt really got much of a clue about hardware now and would like to ask is this a good upgrade and is it compatible? and have any of you guys got aqny adice on what you would buy:

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz - Retail
Motherboard - Asus P5KC Combo Intel P35 (Socket 775)
Ram - OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8000C5 1000MHz ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition
Power Supply - Akasa AK-P085FG-BK 850W PowerMax PSU
Heatsink - Asus Triton 77 Heatsink

That toal there is £460 from OCUK.

And im running windows vista 64

Does that look a decent upgrade, anything you would change?

i'd swap the mobo for the p5K, psu for a corsair 520/620w and the cooler for something like the tuniq tower or noctua.

Thanks, you dont think i need the 800w do you? And the motherboard, im not sure which won you mean bwecause there are a few Asus p5k's on there. Do you mean the Pro won which is more ezpensive or the one thats a little bit cheaper?

Post for NitrogenY3K, he's having some problems with the system!

Basically it wont POST, system is as above although using an existing 500w Enermax PSU.

It powers on but display doesn't get a signal and there are no beeps. Has tried booting with just the board, cpu, memory and no drives etc. Also tried one stick of ram in diff slots. Finally tried another CPU in there (Celeron) and it's still the same?

Any thoughts? Faulty motherboard? Strange it doesn't beep at all - if you remove the graphics card though it does beep to say it's missing so board doesn't seem completly dead, and as mentioned it powers on just doesn't POST.

if he went for p5kc then its quite common that they wont post :( I think i'm one of the lucky ones and my works.
I browsed asus forums for possible problems when i ordered my. Try connecting hdd to different sata port on the board (asus forums advice), try ram in other slots. Also try a generic ram to up the ram voltage.

edit: dont use windows to upgrade bios once/if you get it working and stay clear of 1001 bios unless they changed it as it was p5k bios

Sorry my mistake, board he went for in the end was the pk5 pro. Has tried RAM in diff slots, one stick, nothing connected that isn't needed, diff cpu and still no POST or error beeps. Thinking it could be a faulty board?
