Is this a good gaming headset?

Set of these would be my choice:

Or same again but with a handy USB soundcard with dolby headphone support for surround sound:

The fact that the mic auto mutes when you rotate back up to the "rest" position is really handy IMO for voice comms, the mic seems good to me with crystal clear voice and minimal background pickup but I've only heard it from the perspective of the test feature in TS3 and not from that of other people I'm on voice with.

well i have that headset and its the best i have had, nice clear with a little bit of punch and the mic is excellent according to my clan mates

Also if you have a soundcard it works really well with Dolby Headphone and the likes

you wont be disapointed with it, cant comment on the other headsets 'cos i havent tried them.

Yes, the Carcharias is one of the better headsets under £100. I think the mic is pretty decent, from what I've read. Maybe best to get opinions from others though, just to be sure. :)

I've tried just about every major gaming headset except the Razer Carcharias (and most of the other recent Razer gaming headsets) and have a hard time reccomending anything that isn't Sennheiser - that said most of them are acceptable for gaming if your not too picky about audio quality but once you do play games on some high end headphones you'll have a hard time going back to something average.

Just never got around to trying the Carcharias and happy enough finally with the PC333D and PC163D.

Those 330's clamp quite a bit, too much really. Some reviewers were left with throbbing ears after only a matter of minutes. I'm sure they sound great, but that's not much use if you can't actually wear them for any length of time.

Thats part of the reason I have both sets as the PC163Ds are far far more comfortable for prolonged useage (prolly most comfortable headphones/set I've ever used), but I don't find the PC333Ds _that_ uncomfortable (about average as headphones go) and the better mic features and closed design give a fair edge for OPs in Eve Online and FPS matches.

EDIT: If you want uncomfortable try the Plantronics 367 :D you'll swear you did something to offend them in another life after just a few minutes tho they do loosen up if left over something slightly larger than your head for a week or so between use.

Thanks for all the replies, i'll probably be getting the Sennheisers.

Also, my past two mics have both picked up everything (typing, clicking, anything in the background). Is it possible that could be software related, or is it probably just the mics? I had the turtle beach x12, and the Corsair Vengeance 1300.

No idea what quality the mic is on the turtle beach but the corsairs should do a good job of cancelling background noise.

The speedlink clipons are supposed to be good at supressing background noise but personally I'm of the opinion headsets with a boom mic are more optimal for gaming voice comms - unless your just pubbing COD, BF3, etc. where it probably makes no odds.

I have just returned a set of Sennheiser PC333D, as an earlier poster said they do clamp hard and hurt my ears.
Just got a set of Sennheiser PC 350 with a fiio E9 headphone amp and they are fantastic.
