Is this a good Microwave?

You can go cheap with microwaves, there's only one bit that will go wrong: the magnetron. They are as fallible in Asda's £30 microwave as they are in a Brother £300 number.

I like the Panasonic ones personally, they're a bit tardis like and don't take up too much space considering the size of plate they'll swallow.

Yep love my Panasonic one, inverter for precise control. No turntable and shelves.
Has a mode that does it all automatically, just press go and it measures the food for a minute then sets its own time. Perfect for jackets.

Door release broke on my Kenwood one. Took it apart to see if it was repairable, and was taken aback by the structure they had put in to make the door system work. Was absolute bobbins. And couldn't bodge a fix either, as it was so stupid.

Spend a little more and go with a Panasonic which has an inverter. If you're using a power setting which runs at say say 50% power then the inverter means it actually runs at 50% power. Without the inverter (cheaper microwaves) they in-effect run at 100% for 1 second, 0% for 1 second, 100% for 1 second etc.

AO.com are generally awesome and the cheapest and will price match shops: http://ao.com/l/search/101/99/?sort=aol_saleincvat&search=panasonic inverter

Can anyone suggest a microwave that doesn't beep incessantly when it's finished? Our current one will beep every minute after it's finished until you open the door or push a button. It's maddening! Yeah, I can go open the door but I work from home so often start defrosting something in the microwave then go on a long conference call so can't get away to shut it up.

can you get a (invertor) microwave without a turntable that distributes heat evenly now ? I though turntable was mandatory ?

If the door lock is a non-reparable interlock unit, does not seem very surprising, given safety aspects (although does not stop someone drying a dog out)

If JohnLewis will price match ao I would go there (currently discussed in media threads too - ao did not even crop up just currys/richersound) always having had good service at jl myself

Had a Panasonic, it stopped working, http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/househ...1bmbpq-solo-microwave-black-10977016-pdt.html

Is there any need for that? Can't you just always use max power.

To be fair I run mine on max power pretty much all the time.

I was replacing an older inverter Panasonic and I'd concluded from all my research Panasonic was the best still :)

My understanding about microwaves was that Sanyo's were the best as they were the only or at very least among the very few that allowed you to use both the grill part and microwave/oven simultaneously. Most other microwaves would only allow you to use one or the other but never both at the same time!?!?

This was research I done a few years ago so things may have changed now though.

Don't need that though, I just want a nice microwave that I can use to warm stuff up.

Yep our Panasonic is an inverter and doesn't have a turntable. Has three shelves so i can do three plates at once.

This one.
