Is This A Problem? (CC Related)

I applied for a Credit Card online and I was accepted for it. I'm currently in China, been here since August last year and won't be home until at least July. Probably longer.

Anyway, when it arrives I plan to tell my mother to give me all the CC details so that I can call and activate it (via Skype). So far so good. But I'd like to know, if any problems arise is it 'ok' that I applied for the card whilst not in the UK? All details are being sent to my UK address so I can't see any problem as I'm still registered as staying at the house.

I can't see any issue with it, but maybe the CC issuer might. What do you think?

What employment details did you give the credit card company? Don't they ask for your employer's address?

I filled my employers address as the real Chinese address, and they accepted it (PIN has arrived via post, but not the card so far).

This is why I think it should be ok, but they have the right to cancel the contract at any time, so if it's best left quiet I'd rather keep it that way.

But you put your current address as your UK address? That's a bit naughty to say the least and I don't think they would have given you a card if they knew you weren't resident here.

I didn't lie on the form, and they accepted it. They asked for a UK address for which I am a resident. Not resident at. Their wording, my details, contract accepted.

But maybe someone overlooked this?

If it was me I would ring them to make sure :)

To my mind you are not resident in the UK to all intents and purposes and I'm quite sure UK card issuers only issue cards to UK residents.

Guess I could remain anonymous and enquire. Point taken. I'm only on a prolonged tourist visa now, so I no longer have my residency permit in China (self-employment; no, not a toy boy :p).

So, it's all a little wobbly. Guess I'll call.

It is when phone calls from here cost a **** load. More like Stupidcow. :o ;)

BS, use Skype, cost you near nothing, OR just pay up, you're never going to get your answer here, phone the CC provider. What's that saying about cheap advice?

Some card issuers let you reverse the charges when callling them from abroad albeit it's probably for existing customers only I suppose.

So your advice is also cheap, yes?

Near nothing? Pay-up? What's that saying about ignorance? I wanted to find out if anyone had experienced it (online forum, good choice) and whether it was outright against the contract. Thus taking away my need to contact them and have my application cancelled.
