Hi,

When overclocking my 7950 using MSI Afterburner, if i move the power limit slider and/or the mem or core volts sliders more than a small amount my pc powers off.

when i say i move the sliders a small amount, the power limit was fine at +5%, then i seen a clocking guide that suggests to use +20% which caused the problem. also with the power limit at +5% (where it was fine) then the mem voltage turned up by 50mV the same thing happens.

Edit: I am using a Antec Phantom 500 PSU, the system is

Asus Z87-A
4670k @stock
7950 with latest drivers
2x4Gb crutial balistix
128Gb SSD
1x 200mm case fan
2x120mm case fans

everything is stock cooling for now until my bay res arrives.

do i need more BHP is the PSU department or does it sound like its my video card?

Cheers for any help

Jason.

I have just had to do a google

(because of the way its mounted in my case i cant see the label on it, and my memory is poor)

Can you double check the name of the PSU..cant find hide nor hair of it anywhere.

Edit..just seen above reply.

A new PSU is on my list of things to buy in the short term, hence this thread, as i was a little suspicious of its performance.

should i be aiming for a 550w or looking for a little more headroom?

Jason.

Ideally look for something with a bit more headroom should you ever want to addax second gpu

Well that 520W PSU listed above is correct for that spec with the single card.

That PSU is made by Seasonic and has 40A on the 12V rail vs 35A on the PSU you have (not taking into account its age and deterioration).

If you have more money to spend then this XFX is also made by Seasonic and has 53A on the 12V rail,

YOUR BASKET
1 x XFX Pro 650W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £71.99
Total : £82.49 (includes shipping : £8.75).

Powers off literally or crashes?
Have you got two independant power connections from the PSU to the GFX?

Turns off Literally. stays off for 4-5 seconds then boots back on of its own accord. and yea 2 independent pci-e connectors on 2 seperate "looms" from the PSU.

stulid, Cheers for the info on those PSUs

Jason.
