Just got a letter today from Nationwide and on the front its adressed to "Titles **** *****" with the stars being my name.

Inside is a letter on Nationwide headed paper, but again its adressed to "Titles **** *****"

Its got my card number at the top with all digits starred out bar the first 4 and last 3. The letter itself says that they have been monitoring my account and identified some unusual transactions. These types of transactions have been blocked now apparently.

It says I need to phone them on 08457 302012 to speak to an advisor. I googled this number and nothing comes up for it, nor can I find it on the nationwide site.

Also the signature at the end looks like its been scanned on and they havent written their name under it, just "Team Manager"

To me it looks fishy, but I'm confused as to how they got my address and that many digits of my card number

Anyone else had anything similar?

Sounds a bit dodgy. Call Nationwide using one of their own numbers of their website and tell them about it.

Nationwides number is 08457 302010 for many enquiries. There is no number listed that you have given on their contact page.

Give them a call and explain it. They will tell you if its a scam.

Sounds like someone has got a receipt for something you bought giving them a few digits off your card and are pulling a fast one.

I may be wrong but I think the first 4 or 8 numbers on a card are always the same for each bank or account type or something, so it wouldn't be hard to make it look like they know the whole number.

Its most likely a scam. Most banks first 4 digits are the same for all cards if i remember correctly. Well all 3 of my abbey ones are.

Anyways if your in doubt ring a number on the nationwide website or go into a branch.

Theres only one way to find out. Phone up the number on the letter and give your bank details....wait, what?

Normally if you have to ask 'is this a scam' then it probably is.

In this instance it looks more like their computer had a spaz with your title/name at the top of the letter.

Like others have said phone their regular number and check

given that this is:

08457 30 20 10

It is very unlikely that a fraudster has managed to obtain the number:

08457 30 20 12

still best check with them first.

It's very possible that it is a scam, the first 4 digits of all cards of the same type from your bank will be the same. It could be an error though, I've seen people in RBS fraud send out letters with an untraceable number as standard! I'd call the bank and ask them as they would definitely have a note on your account somewhere.

Well its a scam. Looking at the website the opening times on the letter are wrong, and the phone number ends in 10 not 12 as on the letter.

Looks like its going in the bin!
