Is this a scam?

Well its a scam. Looking at the website the opening times on the letter are wrong, and the phone number ends in 10 not 12 as on the letter.

Looks like its going in the bin!

Remember and let the bank know and send them a copy. As you should do with any phishing e-mails.

I had fradulant use of my barclaycard not that long ago, their automated system rang me to tell this, I would have thought most banks would do this rather than send a direct letter at the first instance. I only recieved a letter with the transaction on, to confirm it wasn't mine after I spoke with an operator.

What if you don't answer on the first call? What if your contact details aren't up to date on their system? What about situation like the Shell card clonings a few years back when literally thousands of cards need to be stopped and customers notified? There are many situations where a letter will be sent out by the bank.

Opening times change, I'd still phone the main number to check.

What if the letter is for real and something dodgy is going with your account?

I just called that number using Skypeout and I spoke to a girl who said she was Nationwide in Swindon. She said the letter was genuine etc and to call them.HTH

i called the number in the OP...

it says welcome to nationwide, bla bla bla.. adviser... ring ring...

i cut off because i couldnt be bothered...

Just call them up and see. Sounds like an extension within the company to me. If you call their normal number from the website and ask to get put through to the correct department for fraud then there is no chance of you getting scammed. Simple. There are very few things that you could do that would be stupid other than to just call up the number given and hand over your details. Anything but that and you will be fine.

Phone the bank on the correct number and ask them.

If it is a scam (which I don't think it is) then they will want to see a copy of the letter.

I think the number is probably a fraud department, which wouldn't be advertised on their website as you never normally need to call them directly.

Turns out its legitimate.....on hold now to see what issue is!
Might suggest they improve their quality control on their letter writing :p

Edit: Apparently my cards been used in the carphone warehouse and not by me lol

His name wasn't **** in the letter, hes just done that to hide it, the problem was that it didn't mail merge his title properly so instead of "Mr" it says "Titles"
