Is this a waste of Speed to use them as a storage??

I was looking at a mate system and i found out that he has two 300gb Western digital velociraptor using them as storage, it my opinion that is a waste of good drives, movies on one and windows files on the other. I asked him what was the reason and he said that he got them for cheap???

am i right so say they are a waste or is there an advantage to having them like that???

oops my correction they are not his master drive he got a raptor 74gb as this main drive with just windows loaded i believe he got the western digital fever, his programs files are on a seperate drive, dont get me wrong his system is fast but i was just wondering what would be the advantage or disadvantage, since they are 10,000rpm and not 7200 or 5400 as a storage.
