Is this as good as it gets?

Enjoy the moments we have left . In a recent press conference CERN said that we are going to have visitors from the future and the end of the world as we know it. This is not conspiracy , this is what CERN have said. September the 23rd will be a very interesting day.

Readings those comments makes me long for the early days of the internet, you know, when bible-bashers didn't know how to use technology :D

I've started watching it. It's not of to a good start, he's taken random letters from either side of the stage and Google'd them...

I like how the Streetview direction controls are really a satanic pentagram :D
Ahh this is going to bring some weird recommended videos up.

I think perhaps above all else, we are the "distracted generation". No time to think when you've got to follow your Facebook feed every 5 mins. Oh, did your buddy just have tasty burger at McDonalds? Oh, did he see that reboot of an 80s film?

Kitten videos! Yay!

OcUK forums... bah it's midnight already?

But the stuff we're all engrossed in is highly unreal a lot of the time. Trivial, meaningless, empty... so much time wasted on crap. So many distractions.

And that's how I feel about the last decade or so.

I'm not blaming anybody. I should snap out of it and find some meaning in my life. From somewhere; anywhere. Just one more kitten video...

Since going on Facebook a lot less, reading news much less and generally caring less about the world and more about my world I'm a lot happier.

In a few weekends I'm making a raft for my kayak to go clear up litter in our river, rather than sign a million petitions online.

Feel if everyone made a little difference rather than worrying about the world, the world would change

Worried? No. This is like the same crap that was passed about in college when the possibilities of the Iraq war was being discussed. You'll all be signed up. Its coming to an end.

The world was supposed to end in 2012, not remember? Wonder how many maxed their cards out that night and were cheesed off the next day.

I'm just curious how @tracertong came across it...

This is me!

Well there is some thing to be worried about and it's not the presenters, but the comments of even the original video... e.g.

The understanding of the medium is not understood. Point, circle, sphere, vector, phase, frequency, amplitude all travels on a medium of infinite mediums. Infinite pebbles (circles/compartments/motion/vector/events) in infinite seas (medium in which all dimensions travel - infiniverse). Control the medium that carries all of known and unknown creation, stepping through the continuum of infinite compartments, motion, time to an alternate medium. As in transhumanism, the owner of the vehicle is ignored, just as it is in blockchain of multicast, multiphase commit. Curiosity without wisdom leads to catastrophic consequences. Humanity know almost nothing about the web of life, it's permutations and dependencies. Another flawed concept is transhumanism of transferring consciousness is more than DNA and perceived communication. The consciousness of the whole, it's interdependence and relationships is totally lost here. For minds that can barely conceive of solving personal problem, moving into this realm is just a wee bit beyond the minds of men to comprehend the whole of what is being done. Dimensions are on a continuum, not discreet. No mater how much information that there is, it is as nothing as a measure to the infinite, just as the fear of death is irrational in the infinite. No matter how long one's life, it is as nothing to the infinite. Time is nothing more than a yard stick of the finite. Parameters are still of the finite. Ask, what is it that runs the show that has no beginning, no end, no point of origin. There are just as many points in a line segment as there is a line. Some extra judiciousness is necessary when one discovers something new to an end that is not well known or understood.

Terrible.
Absolutely! It is changing though. It's funny, I consider myself pretty much addicted to the internet, yet can quite happily spend weeks away from it when I'm busy and not care about it, or the wider world, at all.

Aww come on, we can't even travel to bloomin Mars. When light travel is possible then I'll think about worrying for dimensions and Jean Claude Van Damme can save us.

I don't believe you. You anti-transhumanist over-lord lizzard man

As far as the OP is concerned, I was wondering the other day whether a major catastrophe (natural or otherwise) is something which might 'reset' things for the human race? I guess one problem is that such an event would probably bring out the very worst in people. I doubt Trump et al would be very welcoming if half of the worlds population was wiped out and there was a resource struggle.

It'll take something drastic (AI?) to re-shape the world. Not that I think it's hugely broken, it could be better, yes, but it could also be a lot worse. And, you know what, it's only up to us to make it better. As other people have eluded to, you don't have to have the latest gadgets, you don't have to subscribe to all of the things that you think are wrong with the modern world.

We are all to interested in short term pleasure and it is all on tap.

Binge Netflix, browse the web, eat that food, drink that alcohol...

Rats sat on the button for pleasure until we die.

How... cheerful :p

Things need to change, but I doubt I or anyone alive now will be around to see it.
Greed is the biggest problem, and always has been.
