hay,
the monitor just arrived today. I ran the bleed test and this came back. The glow feels quite ward and yellow. it moves around as i move my head but def feels like there are distinct spots around edge where the glow originates.

what do you guys rekon. This is my third try at a monitor. All have been 1440p. The first 2 asus and this iiyama

Rule of thumb:
If you can make the light patch disappear by changing your viewing position, then it's most probably IPS/PLS glow. If it's in the same place no matter where you look at it from, then it's backlight bleed.

The reason why the glow is usually the most visible in the corners, is because from the normal viewing position (center) the corners are in the widest viewing angle. With bigger monitors (like 27") this is very common, as people tend to sit relatively close to it. But you shouldn't, as the angle difference increases the closer you get, and so does the corner glow.

thanks for the feed back. Am going to send it back. its really really distracting when on a black screen. I wouldnt have minded if if was a bit cheaper but for £450 its no go.

this is my third one now and this is the worst of the 3. With the asus i picked them both up from amazon, i spoke with someone and they mentioned that it may be a faulty batch. When i fired this one up i was shocked how **** it was. kinda wished i had gone with a qnix. I get a refund next week so i am going to meet in the middle and go for a DGM monitor. i can live with a little bleed for that price

Just to make sure:

IPS glow is a panel characteristic, meaning there's a bit of IPS glow in every IPS and PLS panel monitor, you simply can't avoid it completely (apart from looking at it from a straight angle, from an adequate distance). Other panel types have their own negative characteristics, and IPS glow is generally considered the smallest compromise of the bunch. And it's not an error in any way, so the shops and manufacturers certainly won't regard it as such. The glow has become more widely recognized and talked about, as the average monitor size has increased over time, and people are sitting relatively closer to the monitor (too close with regards to size). But the glow has indeed been there all the time. And some people are indeed confusing it for backlight bleed, which it is not.

Backlight bleed is an assembly flaw, and can be present in all LCD panel types. But while it's indeed an error, some shops and manufacturers won't recognize it as an error, unless it's clearly visible even with a bright image. If you give them an over-saturated image of the black screen in a pitch black room in the middle of night, they might simply skip it. Though some manufacturers might be more forgiving. But in any case, you always have the option to use DSR (for 30 days, I think?).

But for what it's worth:
You usually can't get good for cheap. It would be wise to either increase your budget or to lower your expectations.

it sucks. I picked it up from ebay. part of me wonders if this might have been a return that they shipped back out to me. I guess what ever the cost it should not look like that.
Stelly, where did you get yours from? same model?

I can imagine it having issue from ebay... I tend not to get monitors from ebay due to issue that can occur that the seller can define as okay... other items such as HDD they either work or they don't.

I bought mine from OcUK, its this one:

Looks the same to me :)

do you have any bleed at all with yours?

when the box arrived i thought something was wrong. There was a document wallet on the side with nothing in it and also the top of the box was loose. The screen also had smudges on it,, did your screen have a film over it? nothing on mine apart wrom the label on the top right (that is slightly wonky)

What? That monitor costs £450 it isn't exactly cheap

A small amount of money =/= cheap
A lot of money =/= expensive

£450 is still quite low-end for a 1440p 27" monitors... The cheapest I can find are around £350, ranging to £800, and the truly professional monitors are closer to £1.5k-2k. So yes, I would consider £450 to be cheap.

I was going to write a lengthy reply to you, to highlight how flawed your way of thinking is from a consumer point of view - but I just can't be bothered.
