Hi all, would like you to look at my build for my gaming PC if possible and tell me if it is okay, and if there are any issue's or reccomendations you have.

The only thing I can see that I need is an optical drive. Is there any difference between any of them? Really don't use one for anything (I only really play FM and Total War and these are Steam games) really but guess I need one for the operating system.

I had to go for 750w power supply as oc didn't have a 650w one that I wanted. I also need an operating system, but can get windows 7 premium much cheaper elsewhere.

Anyone know anything about monitors? How much of a difference do they make. Am after about a 27" one, but what should I be looking at/for? I mean I know about response time, the less the better, but what about other things?

many thanks, Dave

the motherboard you've chosen is matx (you want atx) and you've chosen a 'monster' case, the motherboard will look tiny in the case.
the fins on the ram will interfer with the cooler as the cooler overhangs 1/more of the ram slots.

any way here's a spec for another person with a ~£1k budget

Heres a new build,

• Seasonic made, Silver rated modular PSU
• Gen3 motherboard

with that you can swap out the graphics card to the one you've chosen should you wish, the hard disk to the 1tb(£80 if you order tonight then £98 till monday) and can remove the optical drive if you don't need it or if you do need an optical maybe swap the ocuk oem for http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-102-SA&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=951 £1 more but retail

if you plan on xfire in future you'll want a 750w psu.

I'd have a look at the Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 motherboard.

i'd consider a 6950 graphics card then with the difference get an ssd hard drive, crucial m4 64gb would be worth a look.

I knew the case was going to be big, but as this is my first build I thought I'd start with something fairly simple at first. I was hoping (pre-planning for the future) to be able to re-use the case again for future builds.

When you say the ram will interfer with the cooler as it overhangs, do you mean the cooler is too deep, so to speak? If I wanted to use that ram is there not another cooler I could use?

Many Thanks.

closed loop liquid cooling cooler like the antec in stulids spec or corsair h60 etc wouldn't have the ram interference issues.

Ah right, okay, so watercooled rather than a fan based system? As I have never done a system build before, would you recommend that I stay away from that for my first build and go with, as you have suggested, the Kingston ram?
