I was routing through some small change at home and came across this peculiar £2 coin. If I hadn't looked at it twice, I'd have spent it on bread and milk!

I suspect it might be valuable, but eBay is seldom accurate! The coin seems to be going for as much as £750, but I doubt it even sells for close to that!

Its value is £2, clearly :p

What somebody might pay for it - given plenty of people with more money than sense - could be anything :p

No, it's worth about a fiver max.

Since the furore about the AA numbering on the plastic fivers, everyone thinks they have a double eagle on their hands.

That was an amazing read. :D

I did think the OP in that thread was reaching a bit far with his estimations but the way some people were responding to him was a bit obnoxious. I'm glad he was proven correct and that the people berating this person had to eat their words.

Justice isn't usually prevelant in todays society so when it does happen, it's special. Well done to Stalker coin guy!.

Coins always interest me as well but i wouldn't start collecting them as it would be come an obsession .....

Best to buy the bread and milk.

The 2€ coins have many reverse sides as well, wouldn't mind a few from the vatican or Monaco.

Condition counts for a lot, if it was mint maybe and with history, presentation and some kind of limited run. They do make collectors version usually in silver or gold mixes, it has to be some weird misprint to be worth something and be that damaged. Recently I read about five pound notes engraved on the see through part by a famous artist, worth 20k?
I used to have all sorts of old coins but none was near good condition, all I have now is a Victorian sovereign and it literally never leaves the box just in case the gold gets dented or scratched. With our interest rates far too low etc I'd advice people to save the old empire coinage not the newer stuff, ie. coins with actual metallurgical value in it
