Is this cutting up? or am I in the wrong? *confused*

I'd say it depends on the way he's getting in front of you - if he's properly speeding past then trying to shove in, he's just being a... uhm... anchor. But if he's just casually driving along and merging, then I'd say he's fine.

Surely that's >180 he's right and <=180 he's wrong...

That's where there's been a rule change at one point, when did you learn to drive?

As far as I can tell, today, 180* you can use either lane, but my instructor told me to use lane 2 for 180* and over (this was 3 years ago).

thats what I thought... you end up in a sitation (well i do!) where I am driving int he faster right hand lane past traffic and then move in on good time ready to go straight over... then some muppet comes up on your right and cuts the queue to go across by about 5 cars and then cuts you up.. :(

Exactly what happens to me, and it's really frustrating... but what can you do apart from ram them off the road? :p I usually beep them!

Another one of my pet hates on that road is people doing 30 or 40 all the way down it even though it's a 50 limit, grrr!

If there's two lanes exiting the roundabout then the guy in red is doing nothing wrong. If there's nothing indication two lanes (painted white lines, merge in turn, big arrow on the road) then fair enough he shouldn't be doing it.

Looks like a MASSIVE exit if it's just 1 lane though.

yeah 3 years ago also - and I was told 180 means left lane - it's vague in the highway code also AFAIK, it's all just 'advising'...

If 180 has only 1 exit lane then yes you should use the left lane (unless otherwise stated).

But if it has two exit lanes, then only suckers queue up in the left lane :p

Obviously if you don't know the roundabout and whether it has 1 or 2 exit lanes then you should use the left lane.

Actually theres a roundabout by me which has 2 entry lanes then 2 exit lanes at 90 (turning left basically). Anyone see anything wrong with using the righthand lane to turn left in this instance?

Just reading the online highway code..

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_070338

Err... it seems vague as to the lane to use for intermediate exits, just 'use the correct lane'..

However, the diagram clearly shows that the left lane is used for 'straight on'..

When learning to drive the car, and ride the bike, both times the rule given by the instructor, was "If there are no signs or marking saying otherwise, the left lane is for left/straight on only, the right is for right only"..

I think you are right, they are just impatient or just don't know any better..

But with unmarked roundabouts, like the one above, the left lane is for people going left and straight over, the right hand lane is for people turning right and going back the way they came... IMHO the guy who cut you up is wrong.
Yeah that's what I thought (unless it was marked differently).

It is the responsibility of the person on the inside lane of the roundabout to manouvre safely to the outer lane before leaving the roundabout. If it is not safe to do so, you should go around again.
He cut you up royally.

Highway code says :

Signals and position.

When taking the first exit to the left, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

* signal left and approach in the left-hand lane
* keep to the left on the roundabout and continue signalling left to leave

When taking an exit to the right or going full circle, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

* signal right and approach in the right-hand lane
* keep to the right on the roundabout until you need to change lanes to exit the roundabout
* signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want

When taking any intermediate exit, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

* select the appropriate lane on approach to the roundabout
* you should not normally need to signal on approach
* stay in this lane until you need to alter course to exit the roundabout
* signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want

Depends on your interpretation of "appropriate lane".

Isn't the highway code a guild unless it says you MUST do something? Therefore screw it! :p

And I'll keep using the right hand lane to turn left :o Hey it saves me queuing for 10mins in the morning.

Sorry to put this here too but this thread is more helpfull with roundabouts.
I have a local roundabout that causes me pain:
Approaching from the SE theres 2 lanes so I use the right lane to turn right (2nd exit), leaving as a single lane but most people use the left lane & cut me up. Theres no signage & even police use the left lane to turn right.
Who is right?

Tricky, I do what you do personally as it's past 180. But then again it is kind of straight on so you can see why some people would use the left. But without driving it I dunno.

It's a bit of a grey area so I'd just do whatever you do with caution :)

There's one in Horwich coming from the Reebok that's a nightmare. There's randomly two lanes for turning right but there's absolutely no room to use them so it causes chaos. Would google it but I'd turning in.

There's a very similar one near me. Locals use the right lane, everyone else uses the left lane. I just be careful, check my mirrors and proceed with caution if there's something next to me that might cause a problem. Surely it's not that hard to do this on any roundabout.

Agreed. You come off the roundabout ready to do 50 and you get some chump doing 30... and you can't overtake easily during rush hour there!

The worst is the back roads to Bicester that I take everyday in the week for work.. get stuck behind 1 lorry and your screwed royally... like 15 minutes at least. I have scraped past some on the Kirtlington to middleton stonely stretch a few times... but was worth it :D

Rant - I hate people that do 45ish in a national the whole time... then come up to a 30 and continue at that speed. I really dislike people speeding in a 30, cause it is a 30 for a reason - mostly cause of a built up area of houses/chance of hitting a person.

Funny you should say that, I was behind somebody that did exactly that and set that speed camera off as you go into woodstock a while ago, made me laugh anyway :D

I notice they still haven't painted the lines back on the road so it's facing the other way at the moment

haha, yeh I noticed that, I saw a BMW ragging it that direction to take advantage ;)
